It's all in the mix: sensors for autonomous driving 🚗 Autonomous driving requires a combination of technologies: Lidars, radars and cameras provide a comprehensive picture of the traffic environment. 💡 The video below shows a camera and a lidar in full synchronization: You can see the environment at the same time through the eye of a camera and a lidar. Lidars emit laser light that reflects off by objects in the environment and is then received again to calculate distances. 🚦 Light orange colors represent objects close to the vehicle; dark blue colors represent objects farther away. Each point (color point) is also a real point in the vehicle's 3D environment, so lidars build an accurate 3D geometry of the environment. 👉 The roof sensor module from #Webasto combines the various technologies and is an elegant and reliable solution for autonomous driving. Disrupting the automotive industry🚗| SW Integration Leader | Project Management | Safety | System verification | System automation
🚗🌐 Key Sensors Powering Self-Driving Vehicles – Now in Action! 🌐🚗 🚘 In my posts about perception, I always highlight its critical role in autonomous driving! I’m excited to share this new project where I demonstrate a self-driving application using the CARLA simulator! 🚘The simulation showcases how key sensors like LiDAR, depth sensors, and cameras work together to enable real-time perception and decision-making in autonomous vehicles. Here’s a quick breakdown of the sensors featured in the demo: 🔹 LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging): Generates precise 3D maps by measuring distances to objects, ensuring obstacle detection even in challenging environments. 🔹 Depth Sensors: Capture critical depth information, helping the vehicle understand distances and spatial relationships to navigate safely. 🔹 Cameras: Provide visual perception, recognizing traffic signs, lane markings, and dynamic objects, crucial for interpreting road conditions. Using the CARLA simulation, we can see how these sensors create a robust virtual environment for testing and refining autonomous driving systems. Check out the video for a detailed look! 🎥👇 💻 Project is available here: https://lnkd.in/dtBqRqKu #AutonomousDriving #SelfDrivingCars #LiDAR #DepthSensors #Cameras #CARLASimulator #

Autonomous car / self-driving car - How it works! (Animation) An autonomous car is a vehicle capable of sensing its environment and operating without human involvement. A human passenger is not required to take control of the vehicle at any time, nor is a human passenger required to be present in the vehicle at all. This animation explains the basic operation of self-driving vehicles with its components - 1) Sensors (radar, camera, LIDAR, ultrasonic) 2) LIDAR as a key component (with lightrays) 3) Cameras for obstacle and lane recognition 4) GPS and digital maps 5) Odometric data and sensors 6) Processors (chips) for data fusion In Future - Autonomous vehicles (AVs) use technology to partially or entirely replace the human driver in navigating a vehicle from an origin to a destination while avoiding road hazards and responding to traffic conditions.

Bio-inspired cameras and AI for supercharged pedestrian detection. More awesome automotive news! 🚗🚗🚗 Researchers have developed a bio-inspired camera system combined with AI that detects pedestrians and obstacles 100 times faster than traditional car cameras. This innovation is inspired by the way biological systems like the human eye process visual information. The article mentions the use of event-driven cameras that only capture changes in the scene, reducing data overload and improving processing speed. This system can even detect pedestrians entering the field of view between frames, a crucial factor for safety at high speeds where traditional cameras might miss critical moments. The article talks about the potential for integrating these bio-inspired cameras with LiDAR sensors, like the ones used on self-driving cars. This hybrid approach is inching us ever closer to autonomous vehicles. Here’s the Techxplore article I found this in: https://lnkd.in/e9E2tFsN Speaking of LiDAR, we’ve got a surge of projects annotating 3D data lately - exciting stuff! #AI #Engineering #SelfDrivingCars #ComputerVision
