“It’s comforting to know my founders are keen to help the society while I am working for them.” The 30-something person sitting next to me on the flight from Delhi to Bangalore said, and it left me inspired. He’s a mid-career professional, working with a retail startup in Bangalore. And I wondered how far reaching is the impact of founders actively supporting social impact. It doesn’t stop with their direct support. It trickles down into the company culture, hiring awesome people and retaining them! There can’t be a better way to ensure the values percolate throughout the organisation, regardless of the role people play. Our corporate partners at Vitamin Angels remind me of such founders. Their passion to reach the hardest-to-reach people with evidence-based nutrition interventions, while they create wealth from the very society - its incredibly infectious! Have you come across of such companies? Founders who wear their heart on their sleeve? Here’s one of our partners - SmartyPants Vitamins #founders #leaders #socialimpact #jobs #employees #nutrition

The job market is getting weirder every day. Are you ready for these "opportunities"? In the US, Elon Musk wants "high-IQ" staff to work 80 hours. The pay? Zero. But hey, it's for DOGE. Tesla In India, Deepinder Goyal is hiring a Chief of Staff. The twist? You pay 20 lakh to join and earn no salary for a year. Zomato It seems passion alone won’t cut it anymore. Now, your wallet and stamina are part of the interview process. Meanwhile, the rest of us are reconsidering those "follow your passion" life lessons... because clearly, our passions can’t afford us anymore! Tagging all HR professionals here: Is this the future of hiring, or just a bad joke? #hiring #workculture #humour #leadership #trends

Indian startups are set to ramp up hiring by 20-30% in 2025, driven by a 14% year-on-year rise in funding, reaching $10.9 billion in 2024. After a challenging phase marked by layoffs, the hiring outlook is improving, with a 46% decrease in layoffs this year. Key sectors like retail, e-commerce, and fintech are expected to lead growth. While the funding winter impacted hiring previously, startups are now focusing on long-term growth, restructuring teams, and investing in talent acquisition. However, demand still lags behind peak hiring levels. #indianstartups #growth #indianmarket #memesamachar #ecommerce Source : Business Standard

How Kunal Shah solved for a big hiring problem for startups ✅ Startups face countless challenges while hiring talent, one of them being candidates not showing up to work after getting an offer letter. Faced with the same challenge at Freecharge, having a brutally tough time as candidates used to take the offer letter but not show up, Kunal solved it with a rather unique approach. He offered a Macbook Pro and the first month's salary in advance, along with the offer letter. If the candidate did not want to join, they could return the Macbook and money. 🤑 Surprisingly, all of the candidates who got this, joined. Not even a single macbook or salary amount was lost. 🤔 The thesis behind this was simple. 😎 Most Indians are not used to being trusted first, if you as a company can create gestures that will make candidates feel trusted and safe, it will instill a sense of purpose in them. A deeper insight is, when somebody gets something in advance, they feel obligated internally to reciprocate. This strategy also leverages on the lack of motivation in general to return money in hand and a brand new expensive laptop, making people accept the offer. As an entreprenuer, you do have to consistently break norms and think out of the box. Most of us, though, do not have the luxury to do this, but there sure are other ways to build this trust within your team. At Infloso | Social AI Copilot, besides other things, we do not have fixed working hours, we do not have strict policies on leaves, we do not mandate WFO, you can WFH. #culture #team #hiring #startups #infloso

How to land a great job in the right startup? 1 big insight & 5 hard steps I tell mid-career folks who come to me for job search or career path change advice. I’ll save you 30 minutes of your time to get on a call with me, and just share it here. First, yes, the job market is pretty brutal right now in India. I can go on about the reasons. But the thing is: if you have applied for business roles in the past year or so, you already know about it. So, let’s skip that. Still, despite the gloom, there is a playbook for you to follow that you can do to land you the role that you want in the next 6-12 months. Yes, you read that right. 6-12 months. No quick fixes here. This is going to be a long road. Ready for it, read on. * The ‘1 big insight’: Founders are ALWAYS hiring. Even if their careers page doesn’t say so. Even if their Human Resources or Talent Acquisition team tells you so. Even if your friend working there tells you so. Unless you heard it straight from the founder, assume they are hiring. In fact, even if you heard it from them, assume they are not sure what you will do for them, but given the right person x problem statement match, they ARE hiring. So, that makes the problem simpler. You don’t have to worry about which companies to apply to, if all of them are theoretically hiring. In fact, you can even filter companies by sector, total money raised, investor pedigree, recency of funding, talent density, peer sentiment about the company (culture, last layoffs, etc.) Now, the real problem: knowing that they are hiring in general, how do you make sure they are hiring you specifically. Now, the ‘5 hard steps’. * 1. Make the stakes lower for them: Ask for a project engagement, rather than a full-time role. Especially if your experience is not a complete match with the role you want to pivot to. But what should that project be about? 2. Solve a problem for them: Reduce the mental load on them of finding the right problem for you. Offer them an exact thing (or a short list of options) you will solve for them in your cold email/message. But which problem to pick? 3. Pick a micro, bottom-up problem statement: Avoid rookie grand statements like 2x revenue growth, halving their costs. They sound good in college case studies and course capstone projects, but in real life, serious founders will not fall for that. The golden rule is: Pick something specific and hard, that an LLM can’t give a generic answer to. For example: a. I’ll talk to 100 consumers in your ICP, and give you a detailed funnel level brand report, over the next 3 months. b. I’ll go through 100 of your creatives and their data, and give you your creative playbook. c. I’ll build a stock replenishment tracker for you, that’s specific to your product development and purchase order system. Continued in the comments …
