With Valentine’s Day approaching, and post-Valentine’s Day clearances on chocolate close behind, there is no better time for a crash course in pairing chocolate and wine! SNDL Director of Wine, Chase Brackenbury, gave us his expertise on what makes the perfect match.
Whether you’re looking to impress someone special, or just want to indulge in something sweet this weekend, follow these tips for your next pairing session!
Tip #1: Look for something low in tannins and high in fruit intensity.
The cocoa and sweetness in chocolate enhance the tannic mouth-drying sensation in wine, making it a good match for a low-tannin option. Opt for something on the fruity side! But what kind of fruit should you be looking for…
Tip #2: Look for notes that are common ingredients in chocolate.
Choose wine with notes of things you might find on the back of a box of chocolates. For fruits, think of raspberries and cherries. Other notes to look for may include caramel, vanilla and clove.
Thank you, Chase, for sharing your expertise and helping SNDL’s customers create memorable experiences with our products! Stay tuned for more tips.
