I started in Sales (aka Recruiting) at age 37 knowing I better figure this out pretty quick. There was a guy in our San Diego office, Dave Bakkeby, who was a legend in our company on what he did as an AE. He was the Regional Manager at the time having been promoted, but I figured I better call him to pick his brain. Why not right? He told me something I will never forget. "Read the industry news that your clients are in for 30 minutes per day." I was like "That's it". That's the advice? You want me to read for 30 minutes? He laughed and said try it for 30 days and see what happens. I did and as you would expect I learned the industry terms. Upstream, midstream, downstream for my Oil & Gas folks. I learned the major players and the companies looking to make a splash. I learned the issues the industry was facing or who just launched a new product. I was on the phone and I threw out a piece of news I just read on a cold call and the conversation switched immediately. I was all of a sudden an industry expert in the eyes of the person I was calling! Little did they know I was day 27 into this new routine. I did not stop reading for 30 minutes per day on the industry where the majority of my clients played in. That piece of advice pushed me to President's Cub for 3 straight years and I think gave me the confidence to launch my sales career. I am not sure I really thanked Dave for that even though we worked several national accounts together and drove hundreds of hours across TX and OK. Read for 30 minutes per day on your target market's industry and you will see a dramatic shift in your conversations. No selfie is included in this post today...haha! #sales #industryknowledge #readeveryday

Area Business Manager at Sun King | Sales Representative | Sales Team Leader | Sales Manager | Area Sales Representative | BBA
🌟WHY WORKING IN SALES IS SO INTERESTING..🌟 As an Area Business Manager at Sun King, I've had the privilege of experiencing the dynamic and rewarding world of sales. What makes working in sales so fascinating is the blend of challenges and opportunities it offers, coupled with the chance to make a real impact on people's lives. One of the most memorable experiences I've had in this role was when I led a team of Field Sales Executives to introduce our solar products in a new remote village in my Area. The community had limited access to reliable electricity, and our products promised a transformative solution. It was incredibly rewarding to see the genuine excitement and gratitude from families who could now have light in their homes for the first time. However, it wasn't just about the product; it was about understanding the unique needs and concerns of each customer. We had to adapt our approach, listen carefully, and build trust. In one instance, I remember a customer hesitating to invest in a solar kit because of past experiences with unreliable products. After a thorough demonstration and a heartfelt conversation about our commitment to quality and service, we not only made the sale but also gained a loyal advocate who referred several neighbors to us. Sales isn't just about numbers; it's about connecting with people, understanding their needs, and offering solutions that improve their lives. It's an ever-changing field where you learn something new every day, face different challenges, and celebrate unique victories. The satisfaction of knowing that you're not just selling a product but also bringing positive change to communities is what makes this job truly special. If you're considering a career in sales or are curious about what it entails, know that it's a journey filled with opportunities to grow, both professionally and personally. And who knows? You might just find yourself in situations where you’re not just closing a deal but opening doors to a brighter future for someone. #Sales #SalesLife #CareerInSales #CustomerExperience #SunKing #RenewableEnergy #MakingADifference #AreaBusinessManager
