Everyone benefits from having hobbies. They provide us with a creative outlet, a mode of relaxation, or simply just a fun interaction with friends. Hobbies can be extremely beneficial for our overall wellbeing.
Residents from RehabCare Sligo came together to create an Afternoon Tea Party which they organised alongside Community Support Worker, Caroline. Menu planning, shopping lists, team work, food safety and hygiene, were discussed to ensure all of the residents experienced these great benefits:
• Encouraging independence
• Improving physical and/or mental health
• Building life skills
• Broadening interests
• Improving communication skills
• Fostering personal growth
No matter what your passions, interests, and comfort levels are, there are hobbies available for people of all abilities. The key? Finding an activity that’s meaningful, skill-building, and most importantly, fun!

I’m looking forward to lunch with an old friend and former colleague today.
We’re both really busy with all the usual adult responsibilities and we don’t live as close to each other as we used to. Making the time to have a meal together is meaningful to me.
Whether it’s with friends, colleagues, or clients, sharing a meal is always a great way to connect.
And, it turns out there are a lot of benefits when you share a meal with someone. Emma and Carla over at MerryBody do a fantastic job explaining all of the benefits in their article below.
What’s you favorite spot to share a meal with a friend?

🍽️ **The Power of Shared Meals: Building Connections One Bite at a Time** 🍽️
In our fast-paced world, it’s easy to overlook the importance of mealtime. We often see it as just another item on our to-do list, something to rush through between meetings and deadlines. But what if I told you that mealtime is an opportunity—a chance to connect, engage, and build meaningful relationships?
I’ve made it a priority to schedule my meals on my calendar, blocking off time to either have a work meeting with someone or simply enjoy a meal with a friend, family member, or colleague. And let me tell you, it’s been a game-changer.
Instead of working through my meals in solitude, I’ve leveraged them as opportunities to connect with others. Whether it’s grabbing lunch with a coworker to discuss a project or sharing dinner with a friend to catch up on life, these shared meals have enriched my relationships and brought a sense of joy and fulfillment to my day.
But it’s not just about the social aspect—there are tangible benefits as well. Research shows that eating with others can lead to improved mood, better digestion, and even increased productivity. So why not make the most of your mealtime by sharing it with someone else?
Of course, there will be times when work demands require us to eat at our desks, but let’s make those occasions the exception, not the rule. Let’s prioritize human connection and make meals a time for bonding, laughter, and meaningful conversation.
So I encourage you to make a conscious effort to have meals with others, whether it’s a coworker, a friend, or a family member. You’ll be amazed at the difference it can make in your relationships and your overall well-being.

Across our 7 jurisdictions, our team have taken a few moments each day to focus on their wellbeing and consider how they can add a little joy to the days of their colleagues, all in aid of Courtesy Week 🤗
Some of our team in the Falklands shared how they got on - why not try out some of our ideas in your team? 🫶
• Meaningful Monday – Actively demonstrating respect, kindness and care.
• Teatime Tuesday – Make a cup of tea with someone who you don’t normally have a tea with and chat about making positive changes to our workplace.
• Wellbeing Wednesday – Take a walk at lunchtime with a colleague and take in some fresh air.
• Thankful Thursday – Using internal platforms, send a thank you to someone who has helped you or showed kindness, respect or care.
• Friendly Friday – Share images online of things you've done during Courtesy Week to spread the word.

Maintaining meaningful connections with friends is invaluable. No matter how busy life may get, allocating time for your support network can greatly enhance your well-being and overall mood. Therefore, it's essential to carve out moments each day, week, or month to catch up with your closest companions.
Top Tip: Use meal time to reconnect and strengthen bonds with friends and loved ones. Even a quick breakfast or lunch can deepen those important connections.

In our diverse community, we want to remind employers about the ways they can support our Muslim employees and colleagues during this special time.
We encourage employers to be mindful of their employees who maybe fasting during this time and to offer accommodations for those who may need to adjust their schedules or routines during the month. This could mean allowing them to take breaks during the day or being flexible with due dates if possible. Abstaining from food and water during daylight hours, as bodies adjust including ebbs in energy and possible headaches. Please offer your employees a place for those who prefer a quiet spot during lunch or a place to sit that may not be food preparation area.
It is generally not appropriate to ask someone if they are fasting, or why they are not.
Please take the time to educate yourself and your team on this important time to support your colleagues!
