Shoutout Wieden + Kennedy for using their resources/platform to speak truth into the world and bring awareness to such an important issue - censorship & an outright agenda to erase our history. It’s powerful to be on the frontlines of activist advertising. We need more reputable brands to engage in freedom fighting and civil leadership. To stand up for what is right. WK leading the way as always!! Epitome of a brand led by strong values and principles ✊🏼📈🔥#AdMagicClassOf2023 #AdMagicAlumni
Book bans in American public schools are on the rise, increasing by 33% over the 2022-23 school year compared with the previous year, according to nonprofit PEN America. And diversity, equity and inclusion education is under attack—just last month in Florida, the Board of Governors banned public funding of DEI programs across state universities. A new campaign from agency Wieden + Kennedy+Kennedy New York and COURAGEOUS CONVERSATION GLOBAL FOUNDATION highlights the dangers of such bans and censorship, particularly to marginalized communities. “America Erased” aims to spark a movement defending students’ freedom to learn about their country’s complete history. https://adweek.it/3T6japE

Marty Dickinson is offering this candid conversation with our community around bonds and levies. I love this part of her challenge to our community: "I am a fierce advocate for public K-12 education. Having had three children attend public schools in our region, and after leading two successful levy and bond campaigns, I know that schools are critical for developing healthy kids, preparing them to reach their highest potential. As a business leader, I know that no community can thrive without supporting its schools." "I feel so strongly, that I’m leaning into this hard conversation with those of you who question the benefit of voting for bonds and levies in our region. If by voting “no” you require schools to lay off staff, close buildings, shutter sports programs and eliminate activities, how does that benefit our collective future? If you create barriers for students to access technology and learn in well-equipped spaces, what is the impact on those who will eventually take their place in board rooms, surgical centers, classrooms, newspapers, construction sites and creative spaces?" #educationgrowseconomies #education #schoolfunding #schools #spokane #greaterspokaneinc
We are proud to support marty dickinson, Chief Marketing Officer at STCU, in her call to action for tomorrow's vote on bonds and levies in our region. Marty's dedication to public K-12 education mirrors our own commitment to fostering a thriving community. Investing in education is investing in our collective future, paving the way for success in various sectors and addressing challenges upstream. Read Marty's insightful words and join us in voting "yes" for school bonds and levies this February. Together, let's shape a brighter tomorrow for Greater Spokane! https://lnkd.in/g3KVunUN #togetherweregreater

The 1619 Project illuminates the legacy of slavery in the contemporary United States, and highlights the contributions of Black Americans to every aspect of American society. The 1619 Project Education Impact Grants, an initiative of the Pulitzer Center (an official education partner of The 1619 Project), provide support to educational professionals working with students and educators in K-12 learning environments for projects that utilize at least one resource from The 1619 Project to 1) improve the awareness and critical thinking of students and educators about the legacies of slavery in the contemporary United States and the contributions of Black Americans to every aspect of U.S. society, and 2) equip students and educators to take action and make change that advances racial justice. The grants are meant for projects that go beyond the individual classroom level to engage large groups of learners on the school, district, or community level. Grants of $1,000 to $3,000 will fund individual schools, programs, or collaborative projects engaging multiple schools/programs, while grants of $3,000 to $5,000 will fund district, multi-site, or multi-organizational projects.Call 516.410.4895, or email clolataylor@gmail.com for a free fee quote to have us write your entire proposal, or edit your draft, for a reasonable flat fee. https://lnkd.in/eqjiVQks Bev Browning Holly Rustick

Well said Jim Davnie and Kent Pekel. With a focus on solutions, Family Engagement, Positive School Climate/Multi-tiered Systems of support, Data-Driven Early Warning Systems, Increased Caring Adults and Mentors, we are addressing the root causes instead of solely placing the blame on the student and/or their families. According to the MN Student Survey data, 25% of 11th grade students, 28% of 9th grade students, 32% of 8th grade students, and 54% of 5th grade students in MN say "adults in my community care quite a bit/very much about me". Flip the language and say out loud the % of students who feel adults don't care about them. This is why our community efforts to listen to and come alongside our young people is so important. Our young folks need multiple layers of support and this isn't only the school's responsibility. We continue our efforts to open a youth center in our small rural community for this very reason; our youth have told us what they need! Why are so many school kids not showing up for class? What's keeping them out of school and what's the impact? When your organisation depends on a volunteer-led service, you spend a lot of time recruiting and training those volunteers. But because we pride ourselves on the way we look after our volunteers, they tend to stay a long time with us. Inevitably, there are some who come and go or, for whatever reason, reluctantly have to commit their time elsewhere and need to be replaced. Couple that, with extra demand for your service and the need for new volunteers increases. In most areas, this doesn't present too much of a problem but sometimes there are pockets of the country where we really struggle - and this is where we're asking for your direct help. If you have any connections in Wigan, Medway, Sandwell, Coventry, Durham, Wickford in Essex, Dartford or Durham we would really appreciate your help. It could be that you share the post below with your local community group, on a Facebook page or within your own organisation but if you can help, in any way, there will be children we can reach whose lives will be changed for the better. 🙏 #WeAreCoramBeanstalk #WeCreateReaders #LifeChangesWhenYouChooseReading 📚 Could you help create a reader by giving us just one morning or afternoon of your time a week? 📚 Spend time chatting, sharing books and having fun with children in a local primary school to help them discover the joy and value that reading can bring to their lives. Choosing to read can have a greater impact on a child's future success than any other factor so join us today. Readers get the best chance in life and every child deserves that. #WeAreCoramBeanstalk #WeCreateReaders #ChooseReading #LifeChangesWhenYouChooseReading

It's a tough budget year in Maryland, but it's clear education is the priority. Proposed funding for public PK-12 and universities is up. There's absolutely no reason community colleges should be facing funding cuts, but we are, and we are going to have to push back collectively on a statewide level. Maryland coworkers, colleagues, and stakeholders, take action now and tell your state senator and delegate/s to fully and fairly fund our community colleges! https://lnkd.in/eWVAE__4
