Last week, we were privileged and honoured to welcome Professor Kikuko Amagase from Ritsumeikan University in Kyoto, Japan. Her visit explored the differences in community pharmacy operations between Canada and Japan. Professor Amagase was particularly interested in our efforts to ensure patient compliance through innovative methods like blister packaging. She was also excited to see how we lead the way in personalised medicine with our speciality compounding services. Our discussions with Professor Amagase continued during a tour of the Kingston Community Health Centres , a visit that provided her with valuable insights into our patient care and community health approach. Her observations on the similarities and differences between our practices were particularly enlightening. We are grateful for the opportunity to share and learn and thank KCHC's interim CEO, @Wendy Vuyk, for the warm hospitality.

Spotlight: Camila A. Kairuz Camila is Colombia and she is a Research Associate and a PHD Candidate for Guunu-maana (Heal). 📺 What's your favourite book or tv show? I don’t really watch much tv, but I find the big bang theory very funny. 💖 What are your loves outside of work? I love being out in nature, going for a bush walk or to the beach are things that I love to do. Besides that, spending time with family and friends. 👀 What is one thing you are really good at and one thing you struggle with? I am really good with kids and animals, they are usually drawn to me. I really struggle with speaking in public, especially oral presentations in front of big crowds. 💻 What made you want to join the Guunu-maana(Heal) Team? There are many reasons. Probably the main one is because of Guunu-maana’s health approach, which is different from the dominant biomedical system. I was trained as a medical doctor with a Master of Public Health, and all my education was based on a Western biomedical health paradigm only. I could see that the current system, based only on biomedical paradigms, has many gaps and is unable to bridge health inequities. When I met the Guunu-maana team, I got the opportunity to see health from an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health paradigm perspective that is more holistic, grass-roots-based, and has a very different approach to healthcare and health research. I was absolutely drawn to this knowledge and approach and wanted to become part of the team to keep learning and contribute to their work. #guunumaana #alwayswasalwayswillbe #aboriginalhealth

I am proud to present our research programme, "Zdrowa OdWaga" (Healthy Courage), introduced in Medicover Poland to promote a healthy lifestyle and early prevention. At Medicover, we firmly believe that supporting employees in caring for their health is an investment. The Zdrowa OdWaga research programme aims to present data-based results on how regular physical activity translates into reduced health risks and improved quality of life. It will also contribute to better work performance in terms of higher productivity, fewer sickness absences, and overall better physical, mental, and social functioning for employees. At each stage of the 12-month programme, participants consult with a qualified trainer and engage in dedicated training sessions. At the same time, they receive a solid dose of health education from Medicover—the knowledge not only supports motivation but also expands awareness of the relationship between sport, health, and well-being. The halfway results are promising. They indicate a significant improvement in performance and fitness test results and positive changes in health risk indicators. I am looking forward to sharing the final data in a few months. Caring for health is all we do. https://lnkd.in/dfWzji_F

UZH Vice President Elisabeth Stark looks back at at a successful General Assembly of the Una Europa European university alliance and emphasizes the boost given to One Health: https://lnkd.in/dQSz9Gqg "The alliance enables us to forge close partnerships and collaborations with 10 like-minded universities across Europe. This is very important for us because Switzerland is not a part of the European Union, and we’re currently not an equal partner in the EU’s research programs either," she says. "The theme of the event focused on the idea of togetherness and unity that we’re pursuing in our research and visions together with Una Europa. We all share the same planet, and many of UZH’s research focuses explicitly address this. The theme was of course also a nod to the topic of One Health, which was at the heart of this General Assembly and is one of UZH’s strategic priorities. Last year, for example, we were the first university in Europe to establish a One Health Institute." ➡️ Read more about how Una Europa helps advance projects in the area of One Health and how the alliance promotes interdisciplinary collaboration: https://lnkd.in/dQSz9Gqg #WeAreUnaEuropa #OneHealth #Interdisciplinarity #UZH #universityofzurich

🗣"Una Europa definitely boosts interdisciplinary cooperation between universities, both internally and externally... the six Focus Areas were all deliberately designed to be interdisciplinary and bring together experts from different fields and disciplines from all 11 partner universities." One week on from the Una Europa General Assembly at University of Zurich, the university's representative on our Board of Directors Elisabeth Stark looks back on our time together and, in particular, the interdisciplinary nature of our collaboration, highlighted through the Assembly's theme, 'One Earth, One Future'. Hear from Elisabeth 👇 #WeAreUnaEuropa #UniversityOfTheFuture #interdisciplinary #OneHealth

Hooray! This week the Institute for Positive Health (iPH) and Positive Health International (PHi) took an important step in the international expansion of Positive Health philosophy. 🚀 PHi has been collaborating with iPH since the start, with the signing of the Partner Agreement (iPH vignette), this cooperation and future expansion have now been formalised. This agreement ensures that the quality and core principles of Positive Health are upheld, both in the Netherlands and internationally. Karen van Ruiten, director of iPH, is enthusiastic about the collaboration: ‘We are delighted with this cross-border collaboration. It is valuable that Positive Health is now also applied in several European countries, Iceland and Japan. Thanks to this cooperation, we can further shape our international expansion. As an expertise centre, we are happy about that, because sharing and multiplying knowledge in the right way, even across borders, is what we believe in.’ With this agreement, PHi, in close cooperation with iPH, will further develop the Positive Health movement outside the Netherlands. Agreements on translations, trainings, digital tools, research, publications and implementation are part of this partnership. The aim is to strengthen joint ambitions in the Netherlands and abroad. The focus of PHi is to firmly implement Positive Health in 3-5 countries in the upcoming years, where we started with the countries Germany and Belgium. Meanwhile, Positive Health’s dialogue tools are available in six languages, including English, German, French, Spanish, Icelandic and Japanese. 👉 https://lnkd.in/d6bTh-DC The international movement is growing steadily, with ongoing research and implementation projects such as a feasibility study in Germany and the Resilient Communities project in Belgium, in collaboration with GP practices in Leuven, Antwerp and Turnhout. #positivehealth #positievegezondheid #partnership #international #health

Project Management/ Impact Designer / Documentary Filmmaker / Pacific Ethnographer / Senior Producing Director / Inspirational Teacher /
We are very honoured that the Oceania Centre at USP Suva will be presenting the Healer and the Psychiatrist tomorrow, the 10th of April at 6pm at the premier venue in Suva, the Japan Pacific ICT Centre. It is wonderful to finally be in person at a screening in the Pacific hub of Suva, where the film can initiate talanoa on how to improve health communication between health professionals and patients. Dr Mapa Puloka, Emeline Lolohea and Dr Alani Tangitau are examples of inspirational communicators, who in their own spheres of influence contribute to improved health outcomes. The film is received in diverse ways that often depend on how close and knowledgeable the audience is about Tonga. Tomorrow the audience will include health professionals with extensive experience and knowledge of the dynamics of health seeking. I want to centre the passing of Tevita and Fine Lolohea in the middle of the film, as examples of a trust and communication nexus, that require talanoa on multiple levels to contribute to improvement. The challenge is universal, but the solution will need to be led by Moanan principles and processes.
