May is #NationalTraumaAwarenessMonth. At Granite Hills Hospital, we practice trauma-informed care. Trauma-informed care (TIC) is our framework that helps us understand, recognize, and respond to the impact that trauma has on individuals, with an enhanced focus on promoting safety and healing. There are six guiding principles: safety; trust, and transparency; peer support; collaboration; empowerment, voice, and choice; and cultural, historical, and gender issues. Ensuring that the physical and emotional safety of an individual is addressed is the first important step to providing trauma-informed care. My novel, "Whispers Among the Blossoms," highlights the consequences of neglecting the PEARR Tool in healthcare environments and emphasizes the crucial role it plays in preserving the human dignity of trauma victims. I am excited to delve into this research!
We’re thrilled to share the latest research on the implementation of the HEAL PEARR tool, a trauma-informed approach designed to help healthcare professionals identify and support victims of violence and human trafficking. This study, co-authored by experts in the field, shows promising results in building awareness and equipping hospital systems to better address these critical issues. The PEARR tool is more than just a resource - it’s a structured conversation guide that empowers providers to create safe environments for their patients. We are thrilled to welcome Jayson Keener, PA-C, to our brand new state-of-the-art facility in Milford, OH! We recently had the chance to learn more about Jayson's background, approach, and what led him to become a board-certified physician assistant. We asked Jayson about his approach to treating patients, "I always start by thinking, 'If this was a member of my family, how would I want someone to take care of them?' This perspective allows me to build relationships with the patient and their family, which I believe most often leads to better outcomes." Learn more about Jayson here! https://bit.ly/3Tk8VhV
