DEALS NEWS: A Leicestershire car dealership has expanded after securing a second premises at Evergreen Fields Farm in North Kilworth. In a deal negotiated by our Commercial Asset Manager, Tina Flynn, RS Car Sales has taken Unit 5C to create a workshop for repairs and mechanical work. The firm already has its showroom and forecourt at Unit 3A on the park, so when the neighbouring unit became available, it was an easy decision, as Managing Director, Ryan Towers explains: “We’d reached a point where we simply didn’t have enough space for our stock, valeting and mechanics, meaning we were having to outsource, which was costly and not very time-efficient. “Securing Unit 5C has enabled a significant expansion of our business. We’ve created a dedicated workshop, so have brought all our valeting and repairs back in-house. This has enabled us to employ two new full-time members of staff, one mechanic and one valet, and with a healthy pipeline of work, it’s likely we will recruit again very soon. “Tina and the Wells McFarlane team were extremely helpful, responding promptly to our request for viewings and sorting the lease agreement quickly too. UK has seen growth in its third quarter and is aiming to grow annual sales to £40 million by 2028. The company offers a mobile service for minor bodywork repairs, including bumper scuffs, panel damage, paint scratches, small dents, and alloy wheel damage. New Zealand • Western Coast MG in Hawera is undergoing significant expansion with plans for new headquarters in about 18 months. Additionally, new branches are set to open in New Plymouth and Wanganui, aligning with the name "Western Coast". Dealer principal Jimmi Guillosson anticipates that the headquarters, situated on a former supermarket carpark, will cost over $2 million. Meanwhile, the Wanganui premises, expected to open on March 1 this year, will initially operate from a "pop-up" shop on the former Pizza Hut site before the construction of a new building, with an estimated cost of about $1 million. The New Plymouth branch was opened late last year. Western Coast MG, established by Guillosson, Craig, and Jo Baylis in October 2023, has rapidly outgrown its existing premises. The Hawera project is expected to be three times larger than the company's former Hawera Autocourt property, featuring a six-vehicle showroom, a five-bay workshop, a valet bay, three customer EV chargers, an area for tires and wheel alignments, as well as mezzanine offices and storage for parts and accessories. Handling both new and used cars, Western Coast MG has approximately 30 EVs in its inventory. Here are the top 5 things I would consider if I was buying a dump truck. 1. Location. Believe it or not, this matter and it will make sense in a moment. Where do I live, and where am I going to spend the majority of my time working? If I work around Nanaimo and spend my days hauling to and from Port Alberni I am going to look at things a little differently than if I work downtown Victoria every day. The 47X is 10” shorter from the bumper to the back-of-cab than the 49X, and this will make a difference in your turning radius. The 47X is perfect for getting in and out of those tight jobsites, however it is limited to a max of 525hp. 2. Power. This directly corelates with point #1. Where am I going to be working, and what am I going to be using the truck for? A gravel truck that will be used mostly as a straight truck, and only hauling a pup once in awhile will be acceptable with less horsepower than a truck hauling a quad every day. If I’m in an urban environment a 47X with 450-525hp 13L engine is the perfect truck. However, if I’m working a pit run, hauling a quad everyday I’m going to want a little bit more get up and go. I’m going to choose a 49X with a 600HP 16L engine. 3. Box Type. What am I hauling? Vancouver Island is one big rock sticking out of the sea. Im going to want a box built with Hardox steel, with a high-lift tailgate, so those boulders don’t rip my tailgate off when I’m dumping. However, if I’m going to be hauling asphalt I’m going to choose a tub body. And don’t forget to add batch gates. 4. Box Manufacturer. Nahanni, Langfab, Summit, or K-Line? Everybody is going to have their own opinion, but I would ask my dealer who they would recommend. This is all about who has a strong relationship, because if any warranty work is needed, I’m going to want to trust that my truck dealer is going to get the support needed from the body manufacturer. 5. Dealer Support Network. When considering what make of truck to buy, I would ask myself who has the closest service center. It doesn’t matter what brand I buy; trucks break down. The business world would be much simpler if it wasn’t true, but we ask so much of our equipment, eventually it is going to break down. Which dealer has a service center closest to where I work, and who has the biggest parts inventory and can minimize my inevitable down time?
