Padel is scaling up in the UK. Combining elements of tennis and squash, padel is played inside a glass-walled court. Popular in Spain and Latin America, it's catching on in the UK. The UK padel market has ~350 courts but trails Europe’s leader Spain, which counts 15K courts nationwide. The Lawn Tennis Association estimates that about 90K people currently play padel in the UK, up from just 6K in 2020. By 2026, the LTA envisions 1K and 600K players. Cashing in, operates are building courts, equipment, clubs, and more: • Padel Haus • Padel Social Club • Rocket Padel • We Are PADEL • Game4Padel Padel’s outlook is strong. And the social and inclusivity factors could make it a lifelong favourite with users – particularly in the UK.

Benefits of a padel court compared to other sports Investing in a padel court is becoming increasingly popular among entrepreneurs and investors. This is because the initial investment is very affordable and can be quickly recovered. Padel courts require less maintenance compared to tennis courts (where daily soil redistribution is necessary) or gyms (where machines constantly need repair). They occupy less space than tennis courts and much less than football fields or basketball pavilions. Only 4 people (or 2 for individual padel courts) are needed to rent a court and play. Padel attracts a wide range of age groups and is not limited by gender, making its audience very diverse. It is a growing sport. In Spain alone, there are over 3.5 million active players who regularly participate, and professional matches are gaining more viewership, both in-person and on television. In fact, Spain has the highest number of registered padel players in the world. Games at sports centers typically last 1 to 1.5 hours, and there is no need for downtime between groups, allowing for continuous usage throughout the day. More than one year ago, I started playing the fascinating racquet sport of Padel. It was invented in Mexico in the late 60’s and during the pandemic it encountered an accelerated growth as non contact sports gained popularity during COVID. As of today, Padel has more than 25 million registered players with 40k courts available worldwide. Spain and Argentina are the main markets for the sport and have already surpassed tennis as the most popular racquet sport in those countries. Padel is still far from the global popularity of tennis, but lately it has become a threat, as the sport has many advantages vs tennis, which is generating exponential growth worldwide.

Founder of REBO WALL® Social Spaces For Tennis, Padel, Soccer, Golf, Pickleball, Basketball, Baseball, Cricket | All-Ball Entertainment Destinations.
The trend continues to show US Padel Tennis is going to be massive, so what brands should you trust and align with in this exciting growth market? In my world, I got hooked on padel many years ago, and in parallel a little under 10 years ago I started a sports brand called REBO Wall ™ - and we began its global journey, with today over 25+ countries, national governing body's (eg LTA, USTA, Tennis Canada, Swiss Tennis) alongside org’s like The AELTC/Wimbledon Club, The Roehampton Club, The Cumberland Club, The Granite Club (in Toronto, Canada) to name just a few, with local authorities like Rochdale Council, Trafford Council, Portsmouth Council, and installs in locations from China and Japan, to Spain, Greece and Norway plus many more. So a key consideration as padel enters the USA is what’s the track record, quality of product and provenance of the padel brand you're considering, i.e. that it should not only be trusted, with a clearly defined collaborative promotional relationship to help bring in new players on court, but more importantly to greatly enhance how your players and members actually 'feel' about the quality of their padel experiences while playing on court - and off court too in our REBO Wall ‘ALLEYS’ for padel practice and coaching. If you're planning for padel and you want to avoid disappointment, please note we are already taking reservation deposits to secure an allocation from our 2024/5 production run. And if you know anyone that is talking about padel's growth in the USA then please mention REBO Wall ™ - and no doubt you'll gain maximum padel kudos! 😎 👊 #AcceptOnlyTheBest #REBOWallPADEL #SportsInnovation #SportsManagement #FitnessTrends #RacquetSports #ActiveLifestyle #WorldClassPadelClubs #LuxuryCountryClubs #PremierCountryLiving #CountryClubLife #PrestigeCountryClubs #UltimatePadelExperience #CountryClubExclusives #PadelWorldLeaders #HighEndPadel #PadelCommunities #CountryClubChic #PadelLuxuryLiving #PremierPadelFacilities #ExclusivePadelEvents #WorldPadelForAll

Great to see the continued growth of padel in the UK! We've seen that a key driver behind padel's success is a high level of participation in other racket sports. But as Ben Nichols rightly points out here, this doesn't mean that the popularity of padel need come at the expense of tennis. By its very nature, padel can be a great introduction to racket sports. It's adoption in existing tennis clubs as well as through dedicated padel venues can help to ensure the future of both sports. Is padel just mini tennis? Does it really require less skill? Time to bust some myths! 🚫 Padel is a sport that often falls victim to misconceptions. Let’s clear up three common myths: Myth 1: "Padel is easier than tennis!" While padel courts are smaller and the scoring is similar, padel requires a different set of skills. The walls play a significant role, adding an extra layer of strategy. The enclosed space demands quick reflexes and smart positioning, making it uniquely challenging. Myth 2: "You don’t need any specific skills." Contrary to this belief, padel requires coordination, quick decision-making, and precision. Successful players excel not just in physical agility but in tactical thinking. Mastering the angles and understanding how the ball behaves off the walls is crucial. Myth 3: "Padel is only for young players." This couldn’t be further from the truth! Padel is incredibly inclusive, attracting players of all ages. The smaller court size and less emphasis on power over technique make it accessible and enjoyable for seniors and juniors alike. So... Padel is a distinct, dynamic sport that challenges players in unique ways. ➡️ At Padel Courts Deluxe, we celebrate the complexity and the inclusiveness of padel, providing courts that cater to everyone from beginners to seasoned pros. 🌐 www.padelcourtsdeluxe.es 📩 info@padelcourtsdeluxe.es Have you encountered these myths in your padel journey? We have secured planning permission to convert a tennis court to a Padel Court in SDNPA at appeal. The existing tennis court forms part of a residential garden in the South Downs National Park, and is in the setting of a Conservation Area. The inspector agreed with our appraisal of the limited visual impact of the proposal, surmising: The extent of development is very limited; there would be very limited visual intrusion; and there would be mitigation by way of a reduction in the overall extent built development compared to the existing tennis court. This accords broadly with Paragraph 182 of the Framework and would conserve the landscape character of the SDNP so would amount to furthering its purposes. This application is representative of the rapid increase in popularity of Padel which is now estimated to boast over 25 million active players in over 110 countries; making it a truly global phenomenon. Padel courts are smaller than traditional tennis courts, allowing for a more efficient use of space and the sport itself places less stress on players bodies than other similar sports (tennis, squash, hockey, etc). Comparatively, Padel complements a healthy lifestyle with a lower risk of ankle, back and shoulder injuries. Padel, a relatively new sport that has been gaining rapid traction globally, is a hybrid of tennis and squash, played on a smaller court enclosed by glass walls. It combines the speed and strategy of tennis with the precision and control of squash. Players use solid paddles, similar to those used in pickleball, to hit a perforated rubber ball over a net. Padel's origins can be traced back to Mexico in the 1960s, where it was initially introduced as a recreational activity. However, it wasn't until the 1970s that Padel began to gain popularity in Spain, where it quickly became a national obsession. The sport's popularity in Spain has since spread to other parts of Europe, South America, and beyond. Should grassroots tennis be protected from padel and pickleball expansion? This was the argument put forward by Novak Djokovic at the weekend. It would be interesting to know what the question was that prompted this answer, which has made headlines everywhere. Padel is growing and private clubs are investing in padel courts because there is demand and it makes commercial sense, but is that really to the detriment of tennis? Djokovic wants to see tennis protected and made accessible and affordable for kids - the same is true of padel. At the moment, it's predominantly an 'adult' sport, with efforts being made to get more kids on a padel court. The summer holidays are an ideal time to do this and I know that Soul Padel are running kids camps for kids of all ages to achieve just that. On the flip side, the LTA has been unable to send to a GB team to the Junior European Padel championships because there just isn't enough young talented players to fill all the age groups. So there are challenges for both racket sports, but I don't feel tennis should feel threatened and should look at padel and pickleball as opportunities for all three to promote racket sports. What do you think? #padel #tennis #monday #wimbledon

Big fun. Big potential. And big business. I'm talking about Padel. With its blend of tennis, squash, and badminton, it's a great way to relax, but it's also an exciting game that people can play with mixed skill levels and ages. The sport was established in the 60s, but its growth trajectory is unprecedented. It has over 25 million players worldwide, of which about 6 million are in Spain. But Padel isn't just a hobby sport - with its own World Padel Tour, the prize money is nothing to be sneezed at - €4 million. Big brand sponsors are on board, and with its growth, it's surely a boost to the economy? With over 15,000 new padel courts under construction in Europe in 2023, this could be a trend to watch. While there are no signs of the sport's growth slowing, I think Padel could become pretty serious - for everyday folks, for pro sports and for businesses. Do you enjoy it, and are you playing?
