Everybody can do culture marketing. Until they can’t.
#culturemarketing is definitely a thing in 2025. Most of it is also really bad: random activations with randomly picked artists, just adding layers of shallow relevance signalling that do more to cover than actually highlight the brand they are supposed to elevate.
From my experience, this is mostly tor three reasons:
① A product that is simply too detached from any sort of culture
② Marketers and agencies, still, not understanding the worlds they are operating in
③ The quantification of cool, which has created enormous pressure inside corporations to get talent with the biggest possible reach for your budget and has left little space for any sort of sensible/inspiring storytelling – you basically just take who you can get and hope for “culture” to happen
Clarks’ 200 years anniversary campaign is a notable exception here – and then some.

👞 Super on-point talent selection
👞 Starting with story and style rather than jumping to “numbers” for numbers’ sake straight away
Also, one should never forget that Clarks are good for the summerr AND the winterr, and that the leather on them tends to be exceptionally hard while the suede is really soft.
I truly look forward to seeing what will come out of this.
(Great litmus test for culture marketers btw: Can you imagine a consumer ACTUALLY saying this?)
