The WSA welcomes today's publication of the Senedd Culture, Communications, Welsh Language, Sport and International Relations Committee report into the impact of funding reductions for culture and sport. Direct investment into sport via Sport Wales is approximately £8,700,000 lower than if the levels of investment in 2010 had increased in line with inflation. If Wales wishes to maintain its proud sporting history, continue to compete on the World stage, and inspire and enable our citizens to enjoy healthy and active lives, this long-term downward trend must be reversed. Since 2023 the USBO (Universiteit Utrecht) is a partner within the Erasmus+ project "More Than Football Networks" coordinated by the European Football for Development Network. The project aims to help professional football clubs with their community outreach initiatives and support them in their public value management activities. As a part of the project, Jan-Willem van der Roest and I conducted a literature review on public value management in sports. The research document outlines eight reflective questions, which hopefully inspires football organizations to adopt a more strategic approach in their public value activities. Next steps involve the development of a design tool for developing a public value management strategy and a good practices report. I will work on these two outputs in the next two years. Yesterday I was privileged to spend a day in Middlesbrough and South Tees with Isac Mitchell and colleagues from You've Got This, one of Sport England's deepening places. Being relatively new to Sport England's work in Place, it was great to actually chat to partners and organisations working in the communities we invest in and understand what place based systemic work looks like in practice within South Tees. As I drove home, my head was spinning. Reflecting on the day and the conversations I'd heard, two things really stood out to me: 1. If we want to tackle inequalities at their root, the work which we do in communities and our local and national policy must account for the multiple ways inequalities manifest in people’s everyday lives - recognising the role which intersectionality plays, is key, in not only understanding inequalities in physical activity, but also wider inequalities, and creating solutions to overcome them. 2. There are passionate people right across our communities who are desperate for change and we need to ensure that 'we' build the capability and capacity, and the means by which communities, and those with lived experience can advocate for, influence and be involved in policy and decision making relating to their own spaces, places and communities. Despite my head spinning from the sheer complexity of working with complex challenges associated not only with physical activity, but also poverty, ill-health, education etc. which are manifesting in a Place, I'm really excited to continue to be involved in the wider Place work moving forwards. You can check out some of the resources which have been developed by our National Evaluation and Learning Partner (NELP) for evaluating complexity, here: https://lnkd.in/e28DrmyW

Sierra Leone Premier League Board has, effective immediately, mandated that all clubs conduct pre- and post-match press conferences for every league match nationwide. While many clubs may face challenges due to limited media resources and technical capabilities to handle press conferences, I welcome the challenge. After all, growth only comes when we begin crossing these hurdles. Let’s see how it unfolds. This move also highlights the growing importance of media professionals in sport, our roles have evolved far beyond what we could have imagined within clubs. Although to further improve the league’s brand value, I think the board should organize media training for the clubs’ media representatives to properly position them for such developments. #SLPL #LRPL #SierraLeoneFootball #PressConference

As part of my Current and Ethical Issues in Sport and Recreation course with Derek J. Horne, MSA, I have written an article about my recommendation of keeping international politics away from international sport organizations, which is posted on my LinkedIn page. I also made a short video giving a brief breakdown of the issue and recommendation here. #TempleSTHM #TempleUniversity #FIFA #Wimbledon #GameIntegrity #PoliticsInSport
