This year’s honey harvest was a success! Wesgroup’s Apiary was built in 2019 at the heart of our River District masterplan, and the honey quickly became a favourite amongst residents. The apiary is home to over 30 honeybee colonies and generates approximately 500 pounds of honey each year. Honey bees are a vital part of our local ecosystem, they help plants grow in communities, gardens, and public spaces. Each year our staff can volunteer and take part in the harvest! Urban gardens, also known as city gardens or urban farming, are green spaces cultivated within urban areas. This is the Garrison Community Garden in Waco, Texas! As a reminder, they have a Conference coming up June 9-11th at Waco Convention Center! You can register through nwiaa.org to learn more! Here are some interesting facts about urban gardens: Community Engagement: Urban gardens often serve as focal points for community engagement, bringing together residents from diverse backgrounds to collaborate on gardening projects, share knowledge, and strengthen social ties. Food Security: Urban gardens contribute to food security by providing access to fresh, locally grown produce in areas where access to nutritious food may be limited, such as food deserts or low-income neighborhoods. Green Spaces: Urban gardens help enhance the urban landscape by providing green spaces that support biodiversity, improve air quality, reduce urban heat island effects, and mitigate stormwater runoff.

One of the simplest ways of helping us save koalas is by planting more koala food trees. You can adopt a tree for only $5. We have 35,000 followers here - imagine if each person adopted a tree?! That's 175,000 trees for koalas. We also sell trees to landholders. Habitat restoration is one of our core activities at Friends of the Koala and indeed where it all began - without koala food trees, there can be no koalas. Please adopt a tree. So we can plant more trees! #adoptatree #planttrees #koalahabitat #eucalyptus 🌿Watch the video - Plant and they will come: https://ow.ly/5Zrs50QmPgw 🌿Adopt a tree: https://ow.ly/6Ty850QmPgy

Being responsible for a community/portfolio, I liken to caring for my garden. It has to be physically sound, with the right soil, fencing (foundation, structure and curb appeal). It has to have the right amounts of light and water (resources and support). There is a season for pruning (cutting back, evaluation, maintenance). Weeds have to go! Gardens must be supported with care & love (fiscal responsibility, healthy communication with associates and residents) and it WILL reap a harvest, increased NOI! Seeds planted in the right conditions and cared for properly grow. Properties properly supported and maintained, grow. There may be seasons (life, conditions) where the harvest is not as plentiful (conditions outside of our control) but we roll up our sleeves and keep doing what works and what works will work! This applies to all things but people, property management and plants are my thing. 🌸 🌼 🌻 ✿ ❀ ✾ 💐 🌷 #20yearsinthegame #growinghands #community #herbsgrowinginmywindows #flowerseverywhere #happyresidents #happyassociates #moreNOImoney #leadwithcompassion #conferencecallsinthesun #yogamatandlaptop #stresskills #danaisdifferent

At BCIHS, we recognize the critical role honey bees play in our world. These tiny pollinators contribute not only to the abundance of our gardens and orchards but also to the very food systems we rely on. Without their tireless work, many of the nutritious plants we enjoy wouldn’t thrive. As we plant wildflowers and orchards, we’re not just beautifying our communities—we’re creating havens for honey bees and other vital pollinators. By respecting and protecting these small but mighty creatures, we honor the interconnectedness of all life. In many cultures, the bee is a symbol of wisdom, respect, and the rewards of hard work. Let’s celebrate their resilience and the harmony they bring to our world. Together, we can ensure a future where both people and pollinators thrive. #WorldHoneyBeeDay #PollinatorProtection #BCIHS #bchousing #IndigenousHousing #SustainableFuture #CommunityGardens

It’s World Bee Day 🐝 We get to celebrate the colony of 10,000 bees that currently live in our fourth-floor courtyard. It has been a hive of activity since they were first installed in 2022 and they are helping us to reverse the decline of bees, including the creation of another colony of 10,000 that was rewilded to Buckland Lakes. Here are some facts about why bees are vital to our planet: - The vast majority of pollinator species are wild, including more than 20,000 species of bees. - Bees play a role in maintaining a healthy ecosystem and are the world’s most important pollinators. Without bees, we would not have many fruits, vegetables, and nuts. - One out of every three mouthfuls of our food depends on pollinators such as bees. #worldbeeday #beeday

#DidYouKnow Pollinator Week is June 17-23! Just like how pollinators help plants reproduce, pollinators do the same for our trees. Without pollinators, there would be a lot fewer fruiting and flowering trees. One easy way to support Charlotte’s tree canopy is to create a pollinator garden. This is particularly helpful if you can't plant trees because you live in an apartment, or your community already has an abundance of trees, or you have a small space that can’t fit a tree. You can find more information on pollinator gardens at: https://lnkd.in/gtHUQJZX Another simple way to support Charlotte's tree canopy?
