Ready for the Superbowl? From all of tonight’s event-related content one could read these days, this is the piece that struck me most. Taking the entire staff -including interns, of course- to Vegas is a great way to acknowledge their hard work and contributions. After all, an organization's success is a collective effort, and celebrating as a team is crucial in building the culture that got you there, and that will guide you through those times in which you don´t make it to your own Superbowl. #teamworkmatters

“Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity," said Seneca. It is tricky, tireless work to ensure a #familybusiness has the governance needed to preserve family harmony, AND run a great, enduring business for generations. It's a lot lot easier to align when the business is small, because those who needs to know are either in the break room or at the kitchen table. When you have grown into the #1 Refrigerated Tea Brand in America and the fastest growing lemonade like we have at Milo's Tea Company, Inc., it takes a thriving ecosystem of remarkable coaches, advisors, independent directors, and thoughtful TEAm members to drive exceptional governance. One big piece of governance is education and succession planning for NextGens and spouses that married in. So, when we were all in #Birmingham for Thanksgiving a few weeks ago, we hosted a Family Meeting with owners, spouses, and kids led by advisors and key TEAmmates. What do you do at a Family Meeting? Business, first, of course. We educate about our company, industry, and governance. This meeting, we enjoyed a plant tour of our #Homewood manufacturing and distribution center. Then, we met about the duties and responsibilities of ownership. We acknowledged that the duties for family members to interact with the business are even greater that other associates. And, we shared the reality that it's not just going to be "inherit," there has to be merit, hard work, and contribution to be ready, and to overcome assumptions that DNA got you a job, an internship, or an opportunity. Next up, had to be a little fun too so we headed to Topgolf for a some healthy competition on the course. (Yes, I lost 🤣 ). It's important to talk to kids early about family business because this is a very long journey. I'm not sure what will happen with my kiddos. But I am sure that it's the right thing to educate loudly, repeatedly, and early-on that with great opportunity comes even greater responsibility. If you're not ready when that opportunity comes, it will fly past you, especially if it is on a rocket ship like Milo's. What do you do to help yourself or others be game day ready if that opportunity comes? #BrewingALegacy #DrinkMilos Carlton Wallwork

Last Halloween I was working for a client in the West End. I walked into their office through a black and orange balloon tunnel, into a reception totally decorated for Halloween, a breakfast bar of Halloween treats, face painting and many people in costume… You get the picture! I was impressed by the effort and expense invested in this one day. The vibe was fun, engaging and energising. My son, who is on the autistic spectrum has recently started an apprenticeship in finance. At the weekend I casually asked is your office dressing up for Halloween. He looked horrified and replied with a series of questions. Is that a thing? Do I have to? Why? Organisations that do invest, time and money, in such events and initiatives (which I have always admired) do need to take into account the neurodiversity of their teams. What may appear to be fun and exciting to some is stressful, unnerving, and disruptive to others. It can quite easily make some team members feel more like “outsiders”, alienated and that they don’t fit in around here! More than ever “team building” initiatives need to be more diverse and inclusive. #inclusiveleadership #learninganddevelopment #leadershipdevelopment #employeeengagement #employeeexperience

Get to know our team! Today we are featuring Lucas Greenberg our summer intern from Case Western Reserve University! What do you do at UH Ventures in one sentence? - I've been interning with Matthew Zenker and the new UH Haslam Sports Innovation Center with their incoming deal flow. I research, analyze, and compile a variety of data and information to assess sports-medicine and health companies/markets to help accelerate and invest in them. I'm also working on the upcoming SportsLand event with Patricia Colella, MBA, by helping out in all areas of event management. What are your favorite things to do outside of school? - I love to exercise and try new workouts, but more importantly, I love to eat. During COVID, I began cooking and baking as a way to unwind; I try to make a meal four times a week. My favorite dish to make is my grandfather’s shrimp and pea risotto. Favorite binge-worthy TV show? - The Office. I have seen The Office over five times and I can quote certain scenes by heart! What is your favorite restaurant in Cleveland? - Batuqui; a fun Brazilian summer dinner spot. What do you love about Cleveland? - I was born and raised all around Cleveland, and throughout my time, there has been one constant: the people. Everyone from Cleveland has a unique and inspiring story, and I love meeting people from around the world. #Internship #HealthTech #Innovation #EventManagement #Innovation #CareerDevelopment #ProfessionalGrowth #Cleveland
