Throughout history, post-and-beam construction concepts and design have been used as the model for constructing rural buildings. Previously referred to as pole barns, this construction method revolves around the strategic placement of large, widely spaced posts or columns. Post-frame buildings are known for their ability to withstand severe weather conditions. Using modern technology, engineers have updated these designs, extending the use of post-frame construction to commercial buildings. Common commercial applications include auto dealerships and repair shops, retail stores, office buildings, and churches. Since the turn of the century, the simplicity and durability of this type of construction has made it ideal for a range of structures, from agricultural and residential to commercial and industrial buildings. One of NSW's first and largest cross-laminated timber (CLT) social affordable apartment (Class 2) buildings | Architecture & Design (Australia) We are engaged as the executive architect to deliver this pioneering redevelopment project in Glebe from tender to construction for Homes NSW in partnership with Kane Constructions Pty Ltd. JPW designed the initial concept and since then the project has undergone several DA amendments to accommodate the use of CLT. The $65 million development at Cowper St and Wentworth Park Rd is due for completion in 2025 and will provide 75 new fit-for-purpose social homes in two eight-story towers and separate three-story terraces. Associate Director, architect and project lead Noura Thaha, from our Living Environment team, says that the built form will comprise 85 percent CLT, manufactured offsite.
