We are committed to ensuring that our communities have access to safe and clean water and were honored to be able to highlight the work we have been doing to meet these goals across our service area at this month’s chapter meeting of California Special Districts Association’s Association of San Bernardino County Special Districts. We were honored to have Representative Norma Torres join us as our guest speaker to highlight her bill, the Removing Nitrate and Arsenic in Drinking Water Act. Her tireless advocacy to ensure access to clean and safe water directly aligns with our District’s commitment to our customers and community.

"Board member advocacy can be a powerful tool in a college or university’s toolbelt—provided it is done thoughtfully and in concert with the chief executive’s plans." Higher education critics are pointing to questions about educational quality, the value of a college degree, and the purpose of higher education. Board members must be part of the solution. It was an honour to represent Qld mental health consumers at the announcement of the National Mental Health Consumer Alliance by the Assistant Minister for Mental Health, Emma McBride. This is a significant milestone for mental health consumers in Australia, where the voice of consumers will be strengthened by national representation championing human rights, social justice and systemic change. Approximately 42.9% of Australians aged 16-85 experienced a mental disorder in their lifetime (ABS 2022). This equates to roughly 11.8 million people. As a consumer, it is so important that our healthcare environment empowers you to make your own choices and take control of your own recovery. The evidence shows fostering autonomy and shared decision-making in mental health therapy leads to improved outcomes. Consumer autonomy and respect for consumer control over care and recovery processes is essential across our health ecosystem at all times. I know from my own experience as a consumer, carer and working in mental health service delivery that you are the master of your own recovery. The National Mental Health Consumer Alliance works hard advocating for your right to consumer-led mental healthcare delivery to ensure people with lived experience have a strong voice in shaping mental health services. Become a member of your state consumer peak organisation to be heard and become involved in shared growth and learning opportunities that help contribute to positive change. So pleased that Janet Meagher AM, Fay Jackson BCVA, Dip.Ed, EBE, GAICD, Michael Burge AM OAM and Victorina (Vicki) McKenna could join the Alliance for the announcement of the National Consumer Peak yesterday. The announcement as important as it was, is not an end point. It is the start of nationally focused, consumer driven advocacy for the policy direction, supports and services we want and not what others decide for us.

Really profound words from Jared Butler: HCM is not the end of your life, but the start of your life with HCM. The diagnosis, especially in athletes, is not what it used to be. So many tools available now to assess and modify risk to keep the elite athlete and weekend warrior doing whatever physical activity they love. This is why it is important to screen to identify and risk stratify, NOT disqualify.
Washington Wizards player, Jared Butler, spoke at the HCMA's congressional briefing at Capitol Hill in February. In this video, he shares his inspirational HCM story and reflects on his medical hurdles in his journey to the NBA. If you are interested in legislative advocacy and volunteering with the HCMA, please contact Julie Russo at Support@4hcm.org.

✨These are the real words of a kid served by an NCA-accredited center. Through our Youth Feedback Survey, we're hearing from them in their own words. Children's Advocacy Centers (CACs) listen to children. CACs also help them process what's happened to them and build a foundation for life after abuse so they can go back to being kids. 👉Learn more about what we do in our Healing, Justice, & Trust report: https://loom.ly/cytrzy8
