We were recently recognized by the American Opportunity Index as one of the Top 50 Best Employers for High School Graduates to Start a Career. Nearly 400 of the country’s top companies were scored on three metrics: how well firms hire entry-level workers, promote them internally and prepare them for future opportunities. We are dedicated to creating a workplace where our associates can grow, lead, win and do good for others. We offer a variety of opportunities for individuals on many different career paths and work hard to provide them with the resources they need to chase their professional dreams. #SomewhereToGrow #SomewhereToWin https://lnkd.in/eTRfYvs3

Love this new information from American Opportunity Index, identifying the best places for high school grads to start their careers. These companies excel at hiring entry-level talent, promoting from within, and with giving employees a springboard for advancement in their next roles. Not specifically noted here--many of these companies excel at supporting education for frontline workers, to the kind of economic and career mobility we need. This is is one important leaderboard. https://lnkd.in/gznZG4zb

The recent announcement regarding the American Opportunity Index and its ranking of the top 50 employers for high school graduates is a significant step toward addressing the needs of the 40% of graduates who do not pursue immediate college education. This initiative not only highlights the importance of providing viable career paths for these individuals but also emphasizes the role of employers in fostering economic mobility. At Afflatus LLC Inc., a company dedicated to global recruitment, we recognize the critical need for effective pathways into the workforce for young people. The companies identified in the American Opportunity Index, such as Chipotle, Lowe's, and Starbucks, exemplify organizations that are committed to investing in their employees' growth and providing opportunities for advancement. These employers are crucial in shaping the future workforce by offering roles that allow high school graduates to gain valuable experience, develop skills, and increase their earning potential without a college degree. #recruitment
Each year, nearly 40% of high school graduates opt not to enter college directly. Perhaps they are burned out from academics, perhaps the most urgent need for them and for their family is to earn money. Regardless, most of our high school counseling resources are geared toward the 60% of young people who are going to college. We need to offer more and better tools to support these 40%. They too aim to make significant strides on the path to economic success and we should be sure that they have the information and support they need to make the right steps out of the gate. This is why I am excited to announce something very innovative and important from our American Opportunity Index project. Today we released a first-of-a-kind ranking of the top 50 employers that can offer recent high school graduates the best pathway to a sustaining career and increased compensation. The list provides a valuable new resource for the millions of young individuals entering the workforce without a college degree. Topping the list are seven retailers and restaurants: Chipotle Mexican Grill, Lowe's Companies, Inc., Walgreens Boots Alliance, Foot Locker, Gap Inc., Best Buy and Starbucks. The PNC Financial Services Group, The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company, and Chewy also made the top 10. Matt Sigelman Rajiv C. Higher ed can be a challenging proposition. Many people are priced out. Others are eager to cash in more immediately - lending their skills and expertise to the commercial sector. Into that mix comes the American Opportunity Index (AOI) - a tool that helps people evaluate the career trajectories associated with country's varied, major employers. The AOI offers much needed context for people at that critical decision point: where should I apply? (See https://lnkd.in/eCMukTdt) i.e. To the untrained eye, these firms might all seem the same. But the AOI reveals that top quartile companies are particularly good at helping build skills that are transferrable; employees who get their start at these places transition to high paying jobs at a disproportionate rate. Kudos to leaders at Gap, Target, and State Farm, among others, for their efforts to accelerate economic opportunity. And congrats to the Schultz Family Foundation for their stewardship of this project.

A new report highlights how Washington’s workforce development system helps job seekers find training and employers connect with skilled workers. The 2024 Matrix poster includes 19 workforce programs that served more than 531,000 people in the 2021-22 fiscal year. These programs were funded by more than $1.46 billion in state and federal investments. Examples include registered apprenticeships, career and technical education, support for veterans and customized training for businesses, among others. These programs help people find jobs, improve skills and access advanced training. “This report shows that workforce development is a good investment for Washington,” Workforce Board Executive Director Eleni Papadakis said. “Apprenticeship programs, for example, show a 10-year economic impact of $4.9 billion and taxpayer return on investment of $7.80 to $1.” Read more: https://lnkd.in/gYr4W_kc via Workforce Training & Education Coordinating Board

https://lnkd.in/e7AkxWeU After chatting with a lot of the younger generation yesterday at the apprenticeship event, we got to thinking about what they will be 'labelled' as or become know for as Gen Z have. This article is another thought piece on the subject but offers some thought provoking questions on their expectations in the workplace.
