WAPA’s power grid resiliency is on tap for this week’s #PhotogenicFriday … On July 23, flooding throughout southeast South Dakota forced crews from WAPA’s Upper Great Plains region to go on alert, ensuring potential power disruptions were addressed and responded to. Fortunately, the lines remained energized throughout the event, but emergency crews continue to monitor the situation. Marc Kress of WAPA’s UGP region captured these images of the flooding and debris left over on one of our Sioux City-Split Rock 345-kV towers. For showing the intensity of Mother Nature, and the resiliency of our power grid systems, Marc’s images earn a Photogenic Friday label. #PhotogenicFridays #Electric #Infrastructure #Hydropower #CleanEnergy

✨ Happy Friday! ✨ Let's explore another electrifying fact about electricity. In parts of the United States, there are power lines that carry voltages as high as 765,000 volts. Have you ever wondered why birds don’t get electrocuted when sitting on these power lines? 🐦 #synchrogrid #funfactfriday #engineeringconsulting

You don't want anything in contact with your suspended power lines. Wind can put a lot of stress on your electrical connections. Areas with suspended power lines will lose power more often than areas with buried lines because of situations like this. #ElectricalSafetyTips #homeinspection #illinoisrealestate #sparky

Standish Ericsson Alleyway Retrofit In May of 2017 a trench drain, flow-rate measurement device, and rain gauge were installed in a private Minneapolis alleyway with a history of flooding, to capture a year of precipitation and runoff data. In May 2018 the alley pavement was replaced with the PaveDrain permeable pavement system and a second year of data was captured. It was assumed that permeable systems are effective at reducing runoff, but it was not clear exactly how effective they might be. The PaveDrain system EXCEEDED ALL expectations. https://lnkd.in/g-mwmy9h #permeablepaving #greeninfrastructure #stormwater #civilengineering #pavedrain

San Diego Gas & Electric has added an unusual, yet simple, method to help reduce the chances of wildfire igniting when vegetation gets dry and crusty during the summer months. The utility uses a stable of about 600 goats - four herds of 150 each - to graze the non-native brush that grows along the corridors of transmission towers that carry electricity. What a wonderful way to combat wildfire risk. This is shows that solutions aren’t always found in the high tech world. #broadbandforall #ruralbroadband #ruralinternet #wildfire #riskmanagement
