𝗣𝘂𝗯𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗔𝗹𝗲𝗿𝘁: 𝗜𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗙𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗛𝘆𝗱𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗲𝗻 We're proud to announce the publication of a new paper authored by our colleagues from our Sustainable Innovation Lab Leo Leypoldt, Dr. Christina Dienhart, Dr. Hüseyin Caferoglu, Torsten Oliver Salge, and David Antons: "The Hydrogen Field in 2035: A Delphi Study Forecasting Dominant Technology Bundles," in Technological Forecasting and Social Change. This research, conducted as part of the Zukunftscluster Wasserstoff funded by the Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung, offers new perspectives on the integration and future impact of hydrogen technologies. 𝗞𝗲𝘆 𝗜𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀: 1️⃣ 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘆 𝗙𝗶𝗲𝗹𝗱: The study shifts the focus from isolated hydrogen technologies to viewing hydrogen as an integrated technology field. It emphasizes the importance of interactions between technologies within and across fields for the successful diffusion of hydrogen. 2️⃣ 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗔𝗽𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀: Findings predict that hydrogen will predominantly influence industrial applications by 2035. However, its role in land-based transport and heating may be more limited, as other technologies like battery-electric vehicles and heat pumps are likely to take precedence. 3️⃣ 𝗣𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗰𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗜𝗻𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗥𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀: The study advises policymakers to promote a diverse range of hydrogen technologies while being strategic about investments. It suggests focusing on areas with the highest potential impact and avoiding unnecessary infrastructure for less promising use cases. I'm thrilled to announce the publication of my new research article titled "Parametric Optimization of Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cell using Chaotic Swarm Intelligence Technique". This work explores innovative methods for optimizing fuel cell performance, combining advanced parametric analysis with cutting-edge chaotic swarm intelligence techniques. Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cells (PEMFCs) are a promising technology for clean energy solutions. Our research delves into the parametric optimization of PEMFCs, aiming to enhance efficiency and performance. By integrating chaotic swarm intelligence, we have developed a robust optimization framework that could lead to significant advancements in the field. We love to sit down and talk science. Today, we get to highlight Jesus Adrian Diaz Real and the team at CIDETEQ, SC: SRINIVAS GODAVARTHI, goldie oza, Jessica Cárdenas Martínez, Arlete Vazquez, Darshana Rajput and Ariadna García, who are researching clean hydrogen production from sunlight. We were fortunate enough to interview an incredibly busy Dr. Diaz-Real and discuss his research in Photocatalytic Hydrogen Production without the need for traditional platinum group elements, his perspective on the industry's future, and his advice for the next generation. Three things beyond his research application we found inspiring: His love for his students and the work he is doing His passion to make a difference in the world His humble easy, going nature After hearing about his work and how G2V assisted him, we knew that a world of great minds like his, given the right instruments to expand the scientific body, would guarantee a promising tomorrow. Here are a few words of wisdom he has to pass along to the next generation of scientists: “You have to be fascinated by what you do. Without that, you won’t be able to stay right at the edge of knowledge. Thrilled to share that Université de Fribourg - Universität Freiburg has approved our Research Pool Grant for developing a #HydrogenRecovery device from the Fuel Cell purge at SEPARATIC. This initiative aims to enhance PEM fuel cells' efficiency, where nitrogen, comprising 78% of air, accumulates at the anode, necessitating periodic purges that also lose up to 70% of hydrogen, equating to 600 kg over a 150-kW fuel cell’s life. This not only represents a substantial economic loss—potentially up to 15,000 CHF—but also a significant environmental impact, as purged hydrogen reacts in the atmosphere forming methane, a potent greenhouse gas equivalent to ~1 ton of CO2 emissions. Our breakthrough membrane device boasts 100% efficiency in recovering and recycling hydrogen back into the fuel cell, mitigating both economic and environmental losses. The grant will support the development and testing of an industrial prototype, moving us closer to market entry. Qcision (formerly Feintool Technologie AG) and the Fraunhofer Institute IWU have a longstanding partnership. “We have worked together on machine development multiple times in the past.“ explains Prof. Dr. Verena Kräusel, Head of Business Unit Forming Technology at the Fraunhofer IWU in Chemnitz. “The goal of expanding our collaboration with the FB one fineblanking press is to advance the series production of high-precision metallic bipolar plates. We aim to leverage Qcision's experience in bipolar plate production and fineblanking technology.” Markus Schaltegger, CEO of Qcision, sees the collaboration as a flagship project. “With the FB one, Fraunhofer IWU has decided on a state-of-the-art fineblanking press that meets all relevant requirements for the successful series production of metallic bipolar plates. Rigidity, high precision, energy-efficient operation, and flexible usability are particularly important.” 𝗗𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝘆 𝘀𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 The use of the FB one fineblanking press in the "Referenzfrabik.H2“ is part of a development partnership. Both the Fraunhofer Institute IWU and Qcision firmly believe that hydrogen is a key component of the energy systems of the future. Electrolyzers store energy in the form of hydrogen, while fuel cells use it, for example, to power trucks in a climate-friendly way.
