Moving Together Improves Your Travel Choices Residents of Buxton and Hope Valley can now benefit from using Moving Together, a new online platform designed to help residents find local travel and transport solutions. It is free to use, could positively impact the way residents get around and even help save money. The platform is focused on shared transport - that is, forms of private transport which are shared with others. This includes giving lifts in your car, sharing a car, using a community car club and sharing your domestic EV charger. “Moving Together presents new opportunities to help people save money, get around more easily and reduce their carbon footprint” says Roger Clarke, Transport Group Convenor from Hope Valley Climate Action. “As the cost of living increases and the need to reduce carbon emissions becomes ever more urgent, information hubs like Moving Together are a great resource for communities. After answering a few quick questions, the site will point you in the direction of the most suitable transport solutions available to you; for example, sharing your domestic EV charger with others in return for a small profit from the electricity sold.” “Moving Together is a ‘one-stop shop’ which brings together some simple and innovative ideas to help residents share the resources they have in terms of transport” adds Andy Parker of Buxton Town Team. “From a free app which helps people to find a lift-share buddy in their local area, to information on community car clubs such as Buxton’s Enterprise Car Club, the platform offers some accessible and no-cost ways to reduce the cost of travel and carbon emissions.” Julian Ashworth, Moving Together project lead at Hope Valley Climate Action, is keen to get feedback from people who have used the platform or the solutions on it. “It’s important we know if it meets people’s needs, and how we can improve it in future. In the world of sustainable transportation, are our current planning practices inadvertently favouring speed over inclusivity and sustainability? The evidence suggests so. https://lnkd.in/gPznnyhA A sustainable transportation hierarchy, which gives priority to affordable, inclusive, and resource-efficient modes (seen below) could help create a more balanced and sustainable urban landscape. This type of framework prioritizes modes like walking, biking, and public transport, building cities where everyone has access to safe, efficient, and affordable transportation options. This is not a bad idea considering demographic shifts are taking place and there is an increasing demand for non-auto travel. Embracing Electric: A Bold Leap Forward. I am excited to share some incredible progress at Wilderness Scotland in our journey towards a more sustainable future. Our transition from diesel to electric vehicles (EV's) is well underway, and we now have 30% of our fleet running on electric power. While it may seem modest at first glance, this marks a significant milestone for our business and a huge step forward in our commitment to greener travel. Thanks to the enthusiasm and dedication of our team, we’ve planned a remarkable 649 days of EV use this year. These are days that would have otherwise been powered by diesel. Here’s what we’ve already achieved: 11 Agent Custom Trips 12 Agent Departures Trips, covering breathtaking locations like Skye, Loch Lomond, Glencoe, and Fort William. 9 Tailor-Made Departures, ensuring unique experiences in the stunning landscapes of Scotland. 7 Scheduled Departures, including our signature tours: Orkney, Argyll and the Isles, Arran Scotland in Miniature, High Points of the Cairngorms, and Cairngorms and Royal Deeside. 5 Private Departures such as SG+ Road Cycling, trips to the Outer Hebrides, and Skye. In addition to these trips with clients, our EVs have been instrumental in numerous office visits, reconnaissance missions, and not-for-profit trips. I recently made the "commute" from WSHQ to WEHQ a journey of nearly 250 miles and managed it on one charge and a great little coffee stop. We’re aware that challenges remain—designing itineraries, managing charging in remote locations, and occasionally dealing with infrastructure hiccups—but the overwhelming support and commitment from our team is truly inspiring and it is all part of the educational process for office, guides and our clients. The efforts in promoting sustainable travel and reducing our environmental impact are making a real difference. We’re thrilled to see our team wholeheartedly embracing electric and leading the charge towards a greener future. We have also successfully installed additional charging facilities at HQ to allow for onsite charging between departures and are currently working with our suppliers to understand how they can support us with our ambitious plans.
