Our Clean Up Hygiene Poverty campaign is a 'hit' according to PRWeek! 🎉 Last week we headed to Westminster with The Hygiene Bank to demand action on Hygiene Poverty! We hung 40 items of school uniform outside Parliament – a visual representation of the £40 million UK school staff are spending out of their own pockets every year to support pupils who cannot afford basic hygiene essentials and sharing some of the staggering statistics of children affected by Hygiene Poverty. This campaign has not only sparked important conversations about hygiene poverty, but this week Emma Arthurs, Head of Travel at Rooster., gave our campaign a shoutout, also highlighting smol's credibility with our previous initiatives such as Suds in Schools. A lot of hard work and dedication went into this campaign, thank you to everyone involved. Read what Emma had to say, here: https://lnkd.in/e9kA3cuP You can still get involved by writing your own letter to your MP! We have made it as easy as possible by not only sharing our open letter to the Government's Child Poverty Taskforce, urging them to include child hygiene poverty in their upcoming Child Poverty Strategy for 2025, but by creating a template for you to write one too! Find out all you need to know, here: https://lnkd.in/etBT9_9S #HygienePoverty #ChildPoverty #CleanUpChildHygienePoverty #HygieneWeek

On Monday, smol, alongside The Hygiene Bank charity and UK school staff, took a powerful stand outside Westminster. To raise awareness of the growing crisis of child hygiene poverty, we hung 40 items of school uniform outside Parliament – a visual representation of the £40 million UK school staff are spending out of their own pockets every year to support pupils who cannot afford basic hygiene essentials. We also delivered an open letter to the Government's Child Poverty Taskforce, urging them to include child hygiene poverty in their upcoming Child Poverty Strategy for 2025. Hygiene poverty continues to rise, and it is leaving too many children in isolation, unable to participate fully in school and in life. It's time to take the load off of teachers and encourage MPs to take real action! No child should have to face the shame of being unable to stay clean. It’s time for action. Let's work together to #CleanUpChildHygienePoverty. You can learn more about our campaign and how you can petition your own MP for help by visiting our Clean Up Child Hygiene Poverty campaign page, here: https://lnkd.in/etBT9_9S. Thank you to everyone involved in bringing this impactful campaign together The Hygiene Bank, Fanclub PR, NASUWT, PA Media Assignments and the smol team. #HygienePoverty #ChildPoverty #CleanUpChildHygienePoverty #smol #TheHygieneBank #EducationMatters #EndPoverty #TakeAction

smolfest! Our favourite event of the year… Bringing our team together to celebrate is always special, but we make it even more meaningful by prioritising sustainability and community. Here’s how we made this year’s smolfest a true reflection of our values: - We partnered with powerQuad to power our event with renewable energy, saving around 330 kg of carbon emissions. ⚡️ - Having a team that largely works remotely decreases our carbon footprint and increases flexibility for our team. - We partnered with the soul camp to create a respectful, positive, enlightening and fun campsite packed with wellbeing activities. - Our team walked the distance from Edinburgh to Malaga, raising £1,000 for Mental Health Foundation before the event. 💚 - We showcased products from fellow B Corps we admire, including Karma Drinks, Candy Kittens, and UpCircle. 🤝 - Our smol bar featured drinks from independent local producers like Chapel Down Estate, Tonbridge Brewery, Anno Distillers, Lakedown Brewing Co., and Owlet Juices. 🍻 - Flowers from our People Advisor Dani’s garden and reused signs from previous events helped create a beautiful, sustainable space. 🌻 - We encouraged carpooling and used minibuses to reduce our carbon footprint. 🚗 - 100 colleagues came together to connect, have fun, and strengthen our smol community! 🫂 And a special shout out to Maddy Jacobs and the smolfest team for creating an incredible event to remember! We had an absolute blast and are already looking forward to next year’s smolfest!

Wonder or blunder? 🤨 Anyone spotted Persil’s big new laundry innovation, Wonder Wash? A brand new liquid encouraging speedy 15 minute cycles. It got us thinking… We wonder why Persil wants us to do more washes on a quick cycle? We wonder why they’ve made yet another product in single-use plastic? We wonder why they’re pushing convenience culture that tempts us from sustainability? They’ve paid Usain Bolt a quick buck to tell us “Fast just got better”… yeah but not for the planet Persil… Here’s the problem. Quick washes aren’t meant for full loads. Want to wash fast? You can only clean a few items. Which means MORE washes overall. This isn’t progress; encouraging us to wash tiny loads with cycles that still use 60% of the water and 40% of the energy that a full load of laundry uses.1 In fact it’s the exact opposite of what sustainable brands have been championing. Consumer watchdog, Which? have said for years that quick cycles may not be the money or energy savers we had thought.2 Why so slow on the uptake Persil? For us, Wonder Wash doesn’t get out of the blocks. We’re calling a false start, yellow flag, red flag and ultimate disqualification. 💡Our main takeaway? Don’t be duped. Try a free trial with smol for a better way to wash. smol capsules clean FULL LOADS on a cold 30 minute cycle (even at 20°C). It’s the revolutionary way to wash… enjoying the most clean clothes for the least energy, water and chemicals; and it’s the opposite of what Wonder Wash would have you do. Q: What’s better than winning a PR award for our smol Suds in Schools campaign?  A: Winning TWO! We’re celebrating with Fanclub PR this week after winning the Fundraising category of the Purpose Awards and THEN scooping bronze at The Drum Awards for marketing EMEA. Back in September 2023, with The Hygiene Bank, we launched our second fundraiser to install 25 more free-to-use mini laundrettes in schools around the UK where pupils were experiencing hygiene poverty. Why? Because millions in the UK can no longer afford clean clothes and the impact of this can be devastating. 66% of teachers have witnessed the bullying of a child because of poor access to hygiene. The vivid reality of hygiene poverty paved the way for our campaign to spread across all forms of media; but the real winners were the schools. The publicity drove donations over £34,000 from over 1,000 donors and exceeded the original target by a third. In fact, the drive was so successful that the Cost of Living Emergency Fund awarded it £5,000 of match funding. We smashed that target with the help of our generous customers and general public to allow an extra 32 schools to benefit. We’ve now successfully installed washing machines in 94 schools across the 3 years that we’ve been running Suds in Schools. These shiny new machines aren’t just about clean clothes – they’re helping to create healthier, happier learning environments where kids can really shine.
