CEO @ Comprise | Media Relations, Content Strategy, Website Development for Innovation-Driven Companies
Trade shows and conferences can be expensive, time-consuming, and exhausting, but they are effective if done right. Sadly, too many companies do a great job on their booth graphics, giveaways and matching shirts for the participants but don't take advantage of media and speaking opportunities or simply provide some training to those working the booth. That can be the difference between attending a trade show and driving business from a trade show. Don't settle for getting 85% of the way there. The last 15% is critical. Reach out if you're interested in learning more.

Trade shows can be quite overwhelming, as anyone who's attended one will tell you, with back-to-back meetings, long walks between different halls, and a real workout for your pedometer. Smaller, one-day events create a more intimate setting that fosters direct networking with industry colleagues and provides hands-on experiences. By contrast, large trade shows present expansive halls filled with a wide array of industry experts, and create a distinctive mix of networking, innovation, and education that is hard to replicate in smaller formats. What are your thoughts on small versus large events? More here 👉 https://lnkd.in/exq-JXxy

These predictions are 10/10 Thank you Tamar Beck for sharing Greg Topalian’s predictions. The first 5 are some heavy hitters that align with our predictions for the industry. Points 1, 2, and 5 really resonated. Here’s our takes: ⚡️1. “B2B events will become a consumer-like experience.“⚡️ Yes, and they are already leaning that way. We often talk about arming current strategic creative teams with the tools they need to create unstoppable experiences. This includes attending some of our favorite B2C events to see how trends and experiences come to life in that space. It’s a competitive space + attendee expectations are on the rise. Taking inspiration and guidance from this sector is so valuable. P.S. We have a post about all of our favorite events for Creative #EventProfs to attend on our Instagram. Check it out: https://lnkd.in/eYEQ_WCc ⚡️2. “Costs are out of control - something’s gotta give.“⚡️ Keying into the idea of suppliers as collaborators. Vendors are so much more valuable than we often give them credit for. These individuals are subject matter experts in their fields. They can be good when kept in the buyer-seller relationship, but when you let them behind the curtain, it is a winning combination. ⚡️5. “Fans. A shift to focus on the attendees. Attendees are part of an organizer’s financial equation or SHOULD be.”⚡️ Events are designed for attendees. At least they should be. As much as stakeholders need to see ROI from the event, so do attendees if they are going to come back + recommend it to peers. Having attendees-focused event strategy + design means you have to consider every touchpoint in their journey and how to intentionally engage with them. It’s about VIP experiences, personalization, and creating these moments they can’t get anywhere else. As attendees’ expectations are on the rise our execution needs to match if we want to keep up. ⚡️Bonus - Focus on Strategy + Creative⚡️ Adding one prediction, of our own - the shift to strategy and creative focus. For the last few years the industry has been stuck in this last-minute tactics-first progression. We’ve been seeing conversation about the importance of taking time + a strategic approach. Investing in creative teams to tackle strategic challenges and to design unforgettable experiences will continue to grow. Excited to see the next 5 #MeetingsAndEvents industry predictions. What do you think? Do you have any predictions?
Part 1: Want to hear Greg Topalian’s 10 year/10 predictions for our industry? A week or so ago, I shared a review and learnings from my recent visit to The Exhibitions and Conventions Executive Forum in DC. After an honest review of his previous predictions for the exhibitions industry, Greg shared a new set with the audience. They resonated so much with me - I sat through the whole session nodding my head like Miley Cyrus! I think these are gold. What about you? The first 5 predictions: 1️⃣ B2B events will become a consumer-like experience. - Participants want memorable experiences and real connections. - Your competition is not other exhibition organisers, it’s brands who will design what they need because you’re not delivering it. 2️⃣ Costs are out of control - something’s gotta give. - Organisers will start considering 2nd and 3rd-tier cities to lower costs. If their brand is strong enough, they can be confident that their participants will follow them anywhere. - There’ll be a new era of vendor relationships. They’ll stop being buyer/seller-centric and instead become full-on collaborations. 3️⃣ Taking responsibility for delivering meaningful connections is NOT optional - organisers HAVE to deliver meetings. - They’ll stop trying to monitise meetings with exhibitors. - It’s far too easy to try and make a quick buck by charging exhibitors, but instead they'll focus on solving the meeting issues FOR attendees and deliver what THEY want. 4️⃣ Deep fake content. There is so much mistrust around content that in-person events will become a key source of TRUST and clarity. - E-learning will become a major revenue source, possibly bigger than the current trade show model. - Learning will be taken online, and organisers will become a trusted source of learning for their industries. 5️⃣ Fans. A shift to focus on the attendees. Attendees are part of an organiser’s financial equation or SHOULD be. - Attendees want meetings, they want experiences, they want VIP options - they WILL pay. I’ll share the final 5 predictions next week. #ecef2024 #eventprofs #exhibitions PS. These aren’t from a transcript but my own notes; it was hard to read back my enthusiastic scribbles! So, apologies, Greg, if I have misrepresented anything here!
