Last night, members of our team had the honor of participating in the Connecticut Society of CPAs (CTCPA)'s Celebrating Diversity in the Workplace event. Hearing from keynote speaker Sandra Quince, CEO of Paragim for Parity, gave us new insights into DEI in the workplace and motivated us to engage in meaningful discussions. We truly appreciated the valuable and informative evening, and we are thankful for the opportunity to learn and grow.

Yesterday, I had the pleasure of attending the 12th annual Corporate Equity & Inclusion Roundtable (CEIR) conference, Going the Distance: Confronting New Challenges to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion at Duquesne University, an initiative of the Black Political Empowerment Project (B-PEP). One of the highlights was a heartfelt and energizing speech by the Honorable Ed Gainey, City of Pittsburgh Major. His inspiring words emphasized the crucial need for our city to prioritize and actively work toward increasing equity, inclusion, and diversity in all aspects of our community. Mayor Gainey's passionate message set the tone for a transformative event focused on creating positive change in our region. The incredible day-long event brought together brilliant minds and influential leaders from our region. The engaging program featured a variety of formats, including intimate fireside chats, thought-provoking presentations, a captivating keynote speaker by Audra Bohannon, impactful videos, and interactive exercises that kept attendees engaged and inspired throughout the day. Here are some of the key takeaways that resonated with me: 📣 Embrace discomfort and step out of your comfort zone 📣 Always bring your best self to the table 📣 Diversity, equity, and inclusion are non-negotiable principles 📣 Foster an inclusive environment through honest performance feedback 📣 Don't let fear hinder progress 📣 Collaborate and climb together, rather than compete 📣 Speak up, speak out, and take action to create meaningful change I left the conference feeling heard, seen, and compelled to share my story to advocate for a more equitable and inclusive Pittsburgh. It is our collective responsibility to make our city livable for ALL! Now is the time for us to be bold, fearless, and authentic in our efforts to build a stronger, more vibrant, and more inclusive community. We must confront challenges head-on, have difficult conversations, and take decisive action to ensure that everyone in our region has the opportunity to thrive. I invite you to join me in this essential work. Let’s chat! www.mccg.info/contact #diversity #equity #inclusion #Pittsburgh #community #leadership #collaboration #empowerment

DEI in Tech | DoorDash + Wolt | Former Disney, Accenture | 12+ years experience as a product manager and DEI leader at global companies.
This is great summary of the recent shift in corporate #DEI approach and prioritization by NPR's Scott Detrow, featuring David Glasgow, the executive director of the Meltzer Centre for Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging at the New York University School of Law. With all the rhetoric and perceived risk around DEI right now, it can be easy to lose sight of what corporate DEI is all about. Thanks for the great reminder, David Glasgow! ⭐ Diversity = diverse representation and efforts to ensure the workforce looks like the external talent pool. Typically this is achieved through hiring, retention, and internal mobility efforts. ⭐ Equity = fairness in the organizational systems and processes. Equity promotes meritocracy and ensures equal employment opportunities and outcomes. ⭐ Inclusion = ensuring employees feel engaged and valued. Employee Resource Groups play a valuable role in driving inclusion, but so do policies, benefits, communication, leadership engagement, and other drivers of workplace culture. Lincoln friends, please come out to the Lincoln Chamber of Commerce this morning for #TheCircle. #DEI We are a community of people involved in designing, organizing, supporting, and leading Organizational Diversity and Inclusion efforts in and around Lincoln. We believe strongly in the power and the importance of Diversity and Inclusion, for our organizations and for our community. We meet to support each other, share resources and information, and to move this work forward. We meet on the 1st Friday of each month from 9:00 - 10:30am and we try to do three things with our meetings: 1. We try to make it easy for folks doing this work to find and connect with other folks doing this work. 2. We try to learn from what local organizations are doing and have done relative to Diversity and Inclusion. 3. We try to help each other get better, by sharing our experiences and expertise. 4. We try to love and support each other.

On Tuesday, I had the absolute pleasure of attending the Las Vegas, NV Community Connect/ERG Networking Event, sponsored by our extraordinary DEI Team! The speed networking activity helped to break the ice and allow us to focus on fostering meaningful connections. Our esteemed SVP, Chief of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, Joy Fitzgerald, along with her remarkable team, graced the occasion with their presence and profound insights. Joy delved into the challenges we encounter when attempting to forge relationships across such a vast enterprise, emphasizing the importance of these connections for personal and professional growth. Joy passionately spoke to the true essence of DEI—embracing and showcasing our authentic selves. She shared her own transformative journey, recounting moments where she felt compelled to conform to societal standards of professionalism, stifling her true essence in the process. "I spent more time worrying about what people thought about me than I did doing the actual job," Joy candidly revealed. It took a trusted individual to recognize her inner turmoil and remind her of a powerful truth: "They chose you. If you are giving them anything other than you, you're not living up to what they hired." Joy's words struck a chord within me. Reflecting on my own journey, I recalled moments of hesitation, particularly when it came to embracing my natural hair in corporate settings. But witnessing women with locs in positions of power empowered me to shed my fears and embrace my authenticity. Today, I stand firm in the belief that presenting our true selves is not only liberating but also profoundly inspiring to others. For me, DEI transcends mere diversity—it's about celebrating our differences and dismantling the shackles of conformity. Let's not waste precious time trying to mold ourselves into what we think others want us to be. Instead, let's embrace our uniqueness wholeheartedly, for therein lies the path to true success and fulfillment.

We believe in the transformative power of DEI to drive innovation and empower diverse teams. We loved the monkey bar metaphor in Fast Company's article "4 Common Arguments Against DEI—and How to Dismantle Each One" by Amira Barger. She debunks several common arguments against DEI initiatives. From dismantling fears of reverse discrimination to addressing misconceptions about DEI goals, this article expertly describes how to navigate criticisms and foster a more inclusive workplace. In the 2020s, issues surrounding Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in our professional and societal spheres became impossible to ignore. Companies large and small created new DEI positions or expanded teams dedicated to DEI, and the phrase became a buzzword across the business landscape. DEI is a continuous practice — one that Bigmouth Creative takes seriously. This year, we built a DEI statement and landing page as an act of collective accountability. Putting our values into words and actions — and sharing them with the world — is crucial to our growth as people and an agency. Visit https://lnkd.in/ghsgEjjY to read more about DEI at Bigmouth. We'd love for you to share your personal and professional DEI statements in the comments. How are you showing up? #DEI #FutureOfWork #IntentionalMindset
