Many thanks to everyone involved in today's workshop on participatory approaches to AI in healthcare at the 'Health for Democracy, Democracy for Health' conference. We asked the healthcare researchers and professionals present to rank key actors based on their relative importance in the development of AI in healthcare, with the below result: 1. Patient associations 2. Healthcare professional associations and unions 3. Public authorities 4. Technological firms 5. Healthcare training schools 6. Media This is radically different to the current production ecosystem around AI in healthcare developing given the lead by firms and challenges how many dominant actors see who drives innovation, including most governments. Such an important discussion and part of very many more. Image by Alan Warburton / © BBC / Better Images of AI / Medicine / CC-BY 4.0

Also, Yesterday on the HIMSS NCA (National Capital Area) Chapter Event, I had the opportunity to ask Dr. Alan about the current repercussions of AI in healthcare. He shared that while significant advancements have been made, many of the challenges we faced in the past remain prevalent in the healthcare sector. Issues such as: 🔶 Data quality problems 🔶 Identifying the true scope of challenges 🔶 Integrating people, processes, and technology ...among others, have not disappeared. This conversation gave me a new perspective on how AI implementation must be directed towards addressing the most critical, yet often overlooked, needs in healthcare. Like: ◾ Equitable access to medical care ◾ Personalized care for vulnerable patient populations ◾ Early detection of public health crises It is essential that as we advance with AI, we ensure that it is not just a tool for innovation but a solution that meets the fundamental needs of the healthcare sector, benefiting all stakeholders involved.
