WHO Regional Office for Europe’s Post

“We are witnessing an increasing misuse of antibiotics, which has led to the emergence and spread of hard-to-treat infections,” explains Maja Ostojic, a medical doctor from Bosnia and Herzegovina. “After more than 30 years of medical practice, in my perspective, the three most important things in the history of modern medicine are the discoveries of vaccines, antibiotics, and disinfectants, which saved millions of lives and made health services safe.” “For 40 years, not a single new antibiotic has been developed because of a limited return on investment compared to some other medicines, and bacteria are always one step ahead of humans. Therefore, we must all take responsibility to prevent and control infections and this includes preserving antibiotics for their appropriate use.” #WHOEuro is sharing #Stories_of_AMR throughout the year, from countries across the European Region to raise awareness about the serious impact of #AMR. Let’s prevent #AMR together. #AMRAwareness; #onehealth; #saveantibiotics; #handlewithcare; #HealthForAll
