“We are witnessing an increasing misuse of antibiotics, which has led to the emergence and spread of hard-to-treat infections,” explains Maja Ostojic, a medical doctor from Bosnia and Herzegovina. “After more than 30 years of medical practice, in my perspective, the three most important things in the history of modern medicine are the discoveries of vaccines, antibiotics, and disinfectants, which saved millions of lives and made health services safe.” “For 40 years, not a single new antibiotic has been developed because of a limited return on investment compared to some other medicines, and bacteria are always one step ahead of humans. Therefore, we must all take responsibility to prevent and control infections and this includes preserving antibiotics for their appropriate use.” #WHOEuro is sharing #Stories_of_AMR throughout the year, from countries across the European Region to raise awareness about the serious impact of #AMR. Recently I came across this online course "Optimizing Antimicrobial Therapy with Timeouts" mainly focuses on reassess empiric antibiotics in 2-3 days after their initiation based on various factors. I find it useful not only for Doctors but Pharmacist and Nurse especially to those who are working at hospitals settings. In a country like Nepal where irrational use of antibiotic is prevalent it will help to minimize the emerging Antimicrobial Resistance. #antimicrobialstewardship #antimicrobialresistance #nextchallenge

With rates of AMR (Antimicrobial resistance) increasing worldwide and very few antibiotics being developed, existing antibiotics are becoming a limited resource. Therefore, it is very essential that antibiotics only be preserved and last resort antibiotics should be reserved for patients who truly need them. 🦠🧫💊💉 #antimicrobialresistance #amr #antibioticstewardship
"Use antibiotics wisely: consult a healthcare professional before self-medicating!" In Nepal, the misuse of antibiotics, like Ceftriaxone Azithromycin and many more, has become alarmingly common. Instead of seeking proper medical advice, many turn to pharmacy owners and paramedical staff for quick fixes, leading to self-medication disasters. This trend extends to doctors prescribing potent antibiotics without proper clinical or microbiological evidence. The situation calls for a leading role from pharmacists and regulatory bodies to educate the public about the dangers of indiscriminate antibiotic use. It's crucial to promote awareness about the importance of seeking professional medical advice and adhering to prescribed treatments to curb the spread of antibiotic resistance and safeguard public health. #antibiotics #antibiotic_resistance #awareness

ANTIMICROBIAL STEWARDSHIP! 🦠🧫 Antimicrobial stewardship [AS] is one of the key strategies to overcome resistance. It involves the careful and responsible management of antimicrobial use. “Antimicrobial stewardship: ➤ is an inter-professional effort, across the continuum of care ➤ involves timely and optimal selection, dose and duration of an antimicrobial ➤ for the best clinical outcome for the treatment or prevention of infection ➤ with minimal toxicity to the patient ➤ and minimal impact on resistance and other ecological adverse events such as C. difficile” "The right antibiotic for the right patient, at the right time, with the right dose, and the right route, causing the least harm to the patient and future patients" Goals of antimicrobial stewardship: 1. Improve patient outcomes 2. Improve patient safety 3. Reduce resistance 4. Reduce healthcare costs #antimicrobialstewardship #antibiotics #pharmacists

Exciting news, the World Health Organization (WHO) has taken a significant step towards expanding access to improved treatment for multidrug-resistant bacterial infections. Their recent decision to open eligibility for new products marks a pivotal moment in global healthcare. In collaboration with Shionogi Europe & Co., Ltd, WHO has added the first products to its list of prequalified (PQ) medicines. This initiative holds immense promise in addressing the critical issue of delayed access to newer antibiotics, a challenge many countries face worldwide. Let's celebrate advancements that prioritise health equity and combat antibiotic resistance. #HealthcareInnovation #WHO #AntibioticResistance #GlobalHealthcare.
Access to newer antibiotics tends to be delayed in all except a small number of countries. To support efforts to expand access, the World Health Organization recently opened eligibility for products to treat multidrug-resistant bacterial infections. Now it has added the first such product to its list of prequalified (PQ) medicines: https://lnkd.in/dvf_knnf Congratulations to our partner Shionogi & Co., Ltd and to WHO on this important step! #antibioticstewardship #antibioticresistance #globalhealth

*NEVER SHARE ANTIBIOTICS* Sharing antibiotics is not advisable because antibiotics are prescribed based on specific conditions and individual health factors. Using someone else's antibiotics can lead to inappropriate treatment, inadequate dosage, and may contribute to antibiotic resistance. It's crucial to consult a healthcare professional to get the right prescription for your specific health issue. Never dispensing antibiotics without a physician's prescription is risky because it can lead to inappropriate use. Antibiotics should be prescribed based on the specific type of infection, the individual's health status, and the right dosage. Misuse of antibiotics can contribute to antibiotic resistance, making these medications less effective over time. It's important to consult a healthcare professional for proper diagnosis and prescription. #WHO #worldhealthorganisation #awareness #antibioticresistance #Nevershare #pharmacist #hospital #physicians #abdul #abrar
