In medicine, where the goal is to help others, we often forget to apply the same level of care to ourselves. That's why understanding the importance of compassionate boundaries is key. Realising that we have our own limits is crucial. Constantly working without adequate breaks doesn't make us more effective, it can lead to burnout. Setting compassionate boundaries means establishing limits that safeguard our well-being—it's not selfish, it's necessary. By clearly defining these boundaries, prioritising tasks, and delegating when needed, we ensure we stay fit to provide the best possible care. Compassionate boundaries aren't just about saying no, they're about saying "yes" to our well-being, allowing us to keep serving from abundance. How are you at setting compassionate boundaries? #boundaries #settingboundaries #yourwellbeingmatters #selfcarefordoctors #doctorwellbeing #healthehealers #humansinhealthcare

I’ve been discussing the consequences of moral injury on helping professionals for years. It’s not just healthcare workers. Many people who work in helping industries can be impacted. It’s not talked about or taught enough. Check out this book. #moralinjury As Dr. Byrne explains, "When we heal the healers, the repercussions are felt throughout the healthcare system. Patients experience deeper empathy, and decision-making becomes grounded in ethics." Backed by staggering statistics revealing that over 50% of clinicians suffer from moral distress, moral injury, or burnout. With 40% of doctors planning to leave their current practice, the need for transformative change in healthcare has never been more urgent. "A must-read for health system executives, clinician wellness leaders, and healthcare entrepreneurs looking to fix the provider burnout crisis. Dr. Byrne skillfully diagnoses a new culprit - moral injury - through a variety of vulnerable first-hand accounts and compelling interviews with healthcare providers and trainees.”

Over the last number of years, I have become aware that my health was struggling. I experienced muscular pain, fatigue, difficulty sleeping and bouts of feeling blue. In addition to nursing, I am a long-time meditator and energy health practitioner. Despite all my resources, I came up empty in making a dent in helping myself feel better. Two years ago, these symptoms were escalating. I felt anti-social and without any energy to participate in activities outside of work. I knew something had to change, but I felt hopeless to understand what or how. I know that I am not alone, and I think it is important that we share our stories. I am excited to be hosting a powerful conversation for care professionals called Running in Circles: The # 1 Reason Why Health Care Professionals Struggle with Self-Care. Wednesday, May 22nd, from 6:30 -8:30pm at Roots and Wings in Natick, MA This workshop is devoted to your relationship with self-care. We'll honestly look at your current relationship with self-care—where you are, what you want, and what's keeping you stuck. There are two slots left. If you are interested, please message me for more information.

conscious clinicians, you are flooded with email inquiries. You can't respond immediately because you're in sessions and need more funds or the support of an administrative assistant to do these things for you! Here is an email template that you can set to automatically respond as a way to manage response time expectations... "Hi there, Thank you for reaching out, and it's so nice to connect with you! I understand that seeking therapy often comes during times of stress or unexpected life changes, and I’m grateful that your journey led you to my practice. Taking this first step is significant, and I truly appreciate you considering me as a part of your healing process. While I’m currently in sessions with other clients, I want you to know that I’ve received your email. I understand the anxiety that can come with waiting for a response, but please rest assured that I’ll get back to you within 48 hours. (Optional: During that time, I’d love to schedule a brief consultation where we can determine if we’re a good fit, and I’ll happily answer any questions you may have.) Thank you again for your patience and for taking this step toward your well-being. I look forward to connecting with you soon." Warmly, [Your Name] ---- Relatedly, checking in to see if you have the emotional and energy capacity to take on more clients is important to your well-being and sustainability. It can be easy to take on new clients all at once, but this can inevitably stress you out on the administrative end when you're unsure of the frequency of how often you'll see them. #mentalhealth #therapists #privatepractice #clinicalsupervision
