I’ve been discussing the consequences of moral injury on helping professionals for years. It’s not just healthcare workers. Many people who work in helping industries can be impacted. It’s not talked about or taught enough. Check out this book. #moralinjury As Dr. Byrne explains, "When we heal the healers, the repercussions are felt throughout the healthcare system. Patients experience deeper empathy, and decision-making becomes grounded in ethics." Backed by staggering statistics revealing that over 50% of clinicians suffer from moral distress, moral injury, or burnout. With 40% of doctors planning to leave their current practice, the need for transformative change in healthcare has never been more urgent. "A must-read for health system executives, clinician wellness leaders, and healthcare entrepreneurs looking to fix the provider burnout crisis. Dr. Byrne skillfully diagnoses a new culprit - moral injury - through a variety of vulnerable first-hand accounts and compelling interviews with healthcare providers and trainees.”

Have you ever experienced medical gaslighting? I want to hear your story. Medical gaslighting happens when a doctor dismisses, downplays or invalidates your health concerns. They may say your symptoms are "all in your head" or "just stress." Sadly, this happens all too often and the impacts can be devastating - delayed diagnoses, prolonged suffering, trauma and self-doubt. If you have experienced medical gaslighting, please share your story below. Let's break the culture of silence and support each other. You deserve to be heard. Your pain is real. I would love to know: What symptoms were dismissed? How did it make you feel? Did you get a second opinion or find a more supportive doctor? What would you tell others who have been gaslit by the medical system? By sharing our stories, we can educate others, advocate for change, and make sure no one else feels alone in this struggle. Our voices are powerful. https://lnkd.in/gDnKJTkk or link in bio! • • • • • #drpingel #redefineyourhealth #naturopathicmedicine #naturopath #healthyliving #healthylifestyle #naturalwellness #healthandwellness #bewell #healthiswealth #wellnessjourney #healthtips #gaslighting #gaslightingawareness #gaslightingisabuse #medicalgaslighting #patientcare #consult #consultation #consultations #medicalcare #doctorpatient #minmize #minimizing #propercare #treatments #treatment #gooddoctor #healthprofessionals #doctorcare

In the medical field, we often discuss the importance of healing and caring for patients. But what about the healers themselves? 💭👩⚕️👨⚕️ Moral injury and physician burnout are critical issues that often go unaddressed. These issues are born from the high-stress environment of healthcare, where doctors and nurses are constantly making life-altering decisions under pressure. 🏥💔 These incredible individuals dedicate their lives to the well-being of others. But sometimes, the immense responsibility can lead to a sense of moral distress or 'moral injury'. This is when healthcare professionals feel they aren't able to provide the care they believe their patients need, often due to systemic constraints. 🚑⏱️ Physician burnout is another widespread issue. Did you know that 40% of physicians are reluctant to seek medical care for a mental health condition? On a similar note, nurses suffer from similar fears of losing their license to practice or losing employment if they seek mental health care. While there has been considerable emphasis on improving the well-being of clinicians, there is much to be done to alleviate the stress and burnout experienced by the entire healthcare workforce. In this episode of This Clinical Life, Stephen Beeson, MD and Corey Feist from the Dr. Lorna Breen Heroes' Foundation explore the importance of fostering a work environment where everyone in healthcare feels safe when asking for help. "We envision a world where seeking and obtaining mental health treatment is viewed as a sign of strength. The first thing we all need to be doing is what we’re doing right now, which is just talk about these issues, talk about the challenges, and talk about the solutions because we know that those will have a tremendous impact on supporting the healthcare workforce." - J. In medicine, where the goal is to help others, we often forget to apply the same level of care to ourselves. That's why understanding the importance of compassionate boundaries is key. Realising that we have our own limits is crucial. Constantly working without adequate breaks doesn't make us more effective, it can lead to burnout. Setting compassionate boundaries means establishing limits that safeguard our well-being—it's not selfish, it's necessary. By clearly defining these boundaries, prioritising tasks, and delegating when needed, we ensure we stay fit to provide the best possible care. Compassionate boundaries aren't just about saying no, they're about saying "yes" to our well-being, allowing us to keep serving from abundance. How are you at setting compassionate boundaries? #boundaries #settingboundaries #yourwellbeingmatters #selfcarefordoctors #doctorwellbeing #healthehealers #humansinhealthcare
