One of our goals at Whole Hearted Medicine is to dismantle barriers and help drive a cultural shift in healthcare. Navigating the healthcare profession is no small feat, and seeking help remains a significant challenge for many doctors. The barriers are substantial—fear of appearing vulnerable, concerns about professional repercussions, and a culture that often insists on "soldiering on" in silence. In a field dedicated to caring for others, it can hit hard just how unforgiving the medical culture can be toward its own. With our healthcare system under immense strain from an ageing population and escalating demands, prioritising the well-being of those who care for us is crucial. The pandemic has highlighted deep issues within our healthcare system, and burnout among doctors and healthcare professionals has reached alarming levels. According to a 2022 study by Mental Health Australia, burnout rates are at a staggering 84%, with no sign of improvement. This isn't just about the risk of doctors leaving the field—it's about the real threat to patient care and clinical accuracy. These figures represent significant risks to the quality of care we provide. At Whole Hearted Medicine, we're committed to addressing these challenges. While we can't solve all the issues in our overstretched system, we're dedicated to integrating well-being education and support into the CPD framework. We're not just providing education; we're igniting a movement for meaningful change, aiming to create a ripple effect across the industry. #humansinhealthcare #CPDApproved #DoctorWellbeing #SelfCareJourney

Navigating the healthcare profession can be challenging, and sadly, seeking help is often one of the biggest hurdles doctors face. There's a tough internal and external landscape—fear of appearing weak, concerns over professional repercussions, and a culture that often pushes doctors to "soldier on" in silence. For a profession dedicated to caring for others, it hits hard just how unforgiving the medical culture can be towards its own. As our healthcare system strains under the pressures of an ageing population and increasing demands, the well-being of those who care for us must become a priority. The pandemic exposed many cracks in our healthcare system, and burnout among doctors and healthcare professionals has reached alarming levels. A 2022 study by Mental Health Australia revealed that burnout rates among health professionals are at a staggering 84%, with these numbers remaining disturbingly high. But it's not just about the risk of doctors leaving the field; burnout can also lead to clinical errors and compromised care. These are more than just numbers—they represent real risks to the quality of care we provide. While we at Whole Hearted Medicine can't solve all the problems in our overstretched system, we are committed to making a difference. By integrating well-being education and support into the CPD framework, we aim to break down barriers and drive a cultural shift in healthcare. For us it isn't just about offering education, it's about sparking a movement for meaningful change across the industry - creating a ripple effect. #DoctorWellbeing #HumansinHealthCare #DoctorWellbeing #RetreatsforDoctors #RippleEffect #CreatingChange

Just published 🎉 : What about us?: a call to include oral health professions within interprofessional education for collaborative practice. Pressing the global need to move beyond 'oral health' and 'health' as separate entities, to see the integration of oral and health professions and collaboration across health education, institutions and health systems. Seeing this paper published in a journal dedicated to primary care education feels like an exciting win and step in the right direction 👏 🦷 #interprofessionalcollaboration #oralhealthishealth #collaborativepractice https://lnkd.in/d-h4D4QZ

Hosted a successful Health and Wellness Day today. Had a panel discussion honoured by Dr Faheema Parker, Dr Kate Jordaan, and Dr Mike Brown. Moderated by me. Panel discussions are one of the many approaches we can use to deliver education in an engaging way. Life Vincent Pallotti Hospital also partnered with us to make it a success. The intention is to provide comprehensive health care that goes beyond curative care but is more wholistic and primarily improves quality of life. In my professional life, I am always more inclined to educate because for me, Health Education is Medicine without Medicine. In fact, medication might not serve its intended purpose in the absence of education. I hope more clinicians take initiative to educate. #HealthEducation #Healthcare #research #Care

Researchers at Sheffield and Bradford universities have undertaken a scoping review of academic studies of AHP support staff. It sets out the common issues this workforce faces internationally (like poor access to training), the consequence of their underutilisation and the benefits of their effective deployment (including improved patient care). They quote one study that found only 10% of support workers are fully deployed. They have also summarised the wide range of factors that impact on delegation - some objective (like training), some subjective (like perceptions of scope creep). The article is open access so give it a read and think what the impact on healthcare capacity and capability would be if this important group of staff were fully utilised - https://lnkd.in/ef5-xHbf
