Happy World Wildlife Day! Today’s theme is digital innovation within wildlife conservation. Just like our fingerprints, every whale shark has unique individual markings. By taking photos of each whale shark’s unique spot pattern, scientists can distinguish individuals and track their movements, overall health, and distribution. 🦈 You can help crucial research by submitting your photos to the St Helena National Trust Remember, if you are joining this important research, make sure you are following the #BeGentletoGiants Code of Conduct. We can #BeGentletoGiants wherever we encounter them, especially knowing every individual is unique. #WorldWildlifeDay #Innovation #whaleshark #digitalinnovation #wildlife #elasmobranchs

Wolves, extinct in Washington state since the 1930s, have been steadily returning since 2008 due to conservation efforts. Researchers from the University of Washington School of Environmental and Forest Sciences, the Washington Department of Fish & Wildlife, Washington State University and the Spokane Tribe of Indians studied the impact of wolves on white-tailed deer in northeast Washington. Their findings reveal that habitat quality and cougar predation are the primary factors affecting deer populations, with wolves having a minimal impact. This research underscores the complexity of predator-prey dynamics and the importance of considering various environmental factors in wildlife management. 🇵🇱🐺Today at Gorce National Park in Poland, we conducted an exciting howling survey to delve into gray wolf presence and behavior. By mimicking wolf calls, we can capture invaluable data on their distribution and activity patterns. This method, known as the "howl survey," helps us map wolf territories and track their social interactions. Wolves communicate across vast distances with their vocalizations, and by analyzing their responses, we gain crucial insights into their population density, movement, and behavior. This approach is vital for understanding and conserving these magnificent but elusive predators. 🌲 Curious about wildlife research techniques? Let's discuss how these methods can enhance our knowledge and conservation efforts! #wildlifeconservation #graywolf #biodiversity
