How it started ➡ How it's going Research has been part of our cancer center since the University of Rochester founded it back in 1974 - and even prior to that, as part of Strong Memorial Hospital. When our new cancer center building opened in 2008, it was important that it included both clinical and research space. These photos show part of Wilmot Cancer Center's third floor while under construction before opening and what the same space looks like today, filled with the latest equipment and the brightest minds working on cancer discoveries. Researchers on this floor are focused on many areas, from blood cancers to epigenetics to gynecologic oncology and more. Many researchers say working on a floor that is so close to clinical care motivates and inspires them. #WilmotFlashbackFriday

  • A photo of the Wilmot Cancer Center third floor research labs under construction prior to the building opening in 2008.
  • A photo of some research lab space on the third floor of Wilmot Cancer Center that shows the space filled with equipment and smiling faces taking a pause from important cancer research.

My group had the pleasure of being among the first to move into this space when it opened. Such a wonderful collaborative place to work!
