The Gross Reservoir Expansion Project is set to add 77,000 acre feet of water by 2028. The project involves raising the dam's height by 131 feet, resulting in a capacity increase from 42,000 acre-feet to 119,000 acre-feet. A significant portion of the added storage will be dedicated to customer use, while an environmental pool will enhance stream flow and provide additional storage for nearby areas. This expansion will capture and store water during high runoff months, ensuring that water is not diverted during low-flow periods. With this development, Denver Water is taking proactive measures to meet future water demands and maintain a reliable and flexible water supply system. https://lnkd.in/gP_m-tqB

And that big rig right there has a big job to do at our Point Erin (Herne Bay) Central Interceptor site. It’s started drilling secant pile walls which are kind of like retaining walls. Once those are in place, the 30-metre deep shaft can be safely excavated. Point Erin is the final stop on the 16.2km wastewater tunnel route, and where our massive Tunnel Boring Machine will finish her tunnelling and be lifted piece by piece from the shaft. The Central Interceptor tunnel – New Zealand’s largest bored wastewater tunnel – will be connected to the local wastewater network and help prevent wet weather 💩 overflows into local waterways. That’s got to be a good thing! And, here’s a takeaway fact for you to chew over 😁 the 4.5-metre diameter Central Interceptor tunnel has a gradient of 1:1,000m which means 💩 will flow downhill from Point Erin to our treatment plant in Māngere. Now, that's not to be poo poo'd 👍 Ghella Abergeldie Joint Venture (GAJV) #CentralInterceptor #tunnelling #tunneling #tunnels #infrastructure #construction #partnerships #WaterIndustry #wastewater #Auckland

This weir comparison modelled in FLOW-3D HYDRO was slightly inspired by a project Eric worked on at his previous job. Seqwater's Lake MacDonald Dam Improvement Project (link below in comments) ended up with a split level spillway design after a few design iterations. The new spillway will have a lower ogee weir set at the existing lake level and an upper labyrinth spillway to convey higher flood events. As the project webpage states, "a labyrinth spillway is an overflow weir, zigzag in shape, to enable higher flows due to a longer total effective length over the spillway, caused by large rain events. The labyrinth spillway provides an efficient means of increasing spillway capacity." While the following FLOW-3D example is not related to that project, it shows the difference in flow capacities between the ogee and labyrinth designs at a similar upstream head and spillway width. #flow3dhydro 🌧 #flow3d 💦 #hydraulics

Uncovering Solutions: Restoring Access to Vital Infrastructure At Infrastructure Intelligence Services Inc., we understand that effective storm and wastewater management hinges on the accessibility and functionality of our systems. Recently, we were called to a site where an essential manhole was buried under 24 inches of gravel, rendering it completely unusable. Our dedicated team sprang into action, expertly locating and exposing the manhole. With our powerful flusher unit, we cleared the sewers, followed by a thorough CCTV inspection to verify cleanliness, and identify any operational issues. This proactive approach not only restored access but also ensured that our client has the necessary insights to maintain their infrastructure effectively. As part of our commitment to transparency and quality, we provided a comprehensive NASSCO, Inc. report detailing our findings and recommendations. At I2S, we don’t just clear obstructions; we enhance the integrity and efficiency of vital assets. Let’s keep our infrastructure functional and resilient! #StormwaterManagement #WastewaterSolutions #Infrastructure #TeamWork #Innovation Vactor Manufacturing CUES Inc.
