👉 The Department was proud to host our first ‘Values in Action’ awards ceremony this week. As we serve the citizen, instilling civil service and departmental values has never been more important, considering the changing context introduced by blended working and external demands for increased responsiveness. 📢 The purpose of the ‘Values in Action’ competition was to seek examples and stories of how our staff are embedding and living our values of Public Service Ethos, Ambition, Collaboration, and Quality & Delivery. We wanted to hear from and recognise employees and teams who consistently exemplify these values in their work. ✔ We were delighted to receive 31 outstanding entries from across all areas of the Department demonstrating that not only are our values understood, but also how they have been embedded into our ways of working. Twelve entries made the final short list with five winners announced at the ceremony, hosted by our Secretary General Ken Spratt. All entries received have truly inspired us and have demonstrated the impact and meaning behind our shared purpose, values, and behaviours. 💻 The Department also launched a new employee experience portal called ‘EXchange’ at the event. The portal is a one-stop shop that sets out the ‘give and take’ of being part of the Department of Transport, including health and well-being, equality, diversity and inclusion and an employee journey map aligned with our values and associated behaviours. 🏆 Congratulations to all the teams and individuals who participated this year. We are very proud of their dedication and commitment to living our values as we serve the citizen to the best of our ability. #staffengagement #publicserviceethos #ambition #collaboration #qualityanddelivery #values #awards #awardsceremony #staffrecognition

Financial Controller & Commercial Manager at POS Interiors - Workplace design and strategy to inspire your people, improve productivity, and enhance well-being.
🌟 Reflecting on an intuitive morning with the Institute of Directors! 🌟 This morning's IoD event, "Productivity Power-Up: Jersey and Guernsey Navigating Challenges for Business Success," was a testament to the power of collaboration and shared knowledge. It brought together business leaders from both islands to tackle the ever-important topic of productivity enhancement. In today's rapidly evolving business landscape, the pursuit of increased productivity is paramount. Through a hybrid format, attendees had the opportunity to network face-to-face before diving into a thought-provoking panel discussion. Our speakers, Rory Inglis, Lindsey Hart, Paul Murphy and Dan Hare provided invaluable insights and actionable strategies. From crafting inspiring work environments to embracing a mindset of continuous improvement, their expertise illuminated the path toward enhanced productivity and business success. The main takeaways for me were: 1. The impact of the physical environment on business productivity was particularly enlightening. 2. Three primary areas stood out: People, Processes, and Technology, with a notable emphasis on their order that they should be addressed. 3. Don’t underestimate the power of simple solutions; they can often yield the most significant results. I extend my gratitude to the hosts Glen Tonks and Natasha Egre, the organisers along with IoD Guernsey Branch & IoD Jersey, the sponsors, and speakers for orchestrating such a dynamic and engaging event. Special thanks to Nigel Pascoe & Skipton International for providing the breakfast, and to C5 Alliance for their technical support and the venue. It was very motivating to witness the collaborative spirit between Guernsey and Jersey, united in our pursuit of economic prosperity. Let's continue to harness this momentum and drive positive change in our respective business communities. #IoD #Productivity #BusinessSuccess #Collaboration #Networking

Marek Zemanik hosted a breakout session at the CIPD Scotland Annual Conference exploring skills in the context of digital transformation. AI and technological change were themes running through the conference, and developing the skills required to keep on top of these fast-moving changes is absolutely crucial. In fact, as the discussion showed, skills are key to productivity, growth, and also individual wellbeing. Despite well-documented challenges with employer training investment as well as public budgets, the discussion was optimistic and full of good positive ideas for attendees to take away. With huge thanks to Judith Ferguson FCIPD, Susan Stott and Verity Hislop for sharing their journeys and opinions, as well as answering a whole variety of questions from the audience. Our key takeaways included: · Developing a common language around skills is a challenge, but an absolutely crucial first step in becoming a skills-based organisation. Getting senior leadership buy-in is where HR can play a key role. · While tight budgets are a challenge, they are also an opportunity to innovate and collaborate. We heard of some amazing examples of public-private sector cooperation across Scottish local government. · As far as possible, try to personalise learning and understand people’s motivations. Especially in the case of mandatory legal training, linking it to individual roles and explaining its importance can help. · More modular, bite-sized learning opportunities – as well as using gamification approaches – can make a big difference, particularly for younger learners. · Skills development needs to be seen alongside career development opportunities and these too can be bite-sized. This can include allowing people to take part in short-term projects alongside their roles. Many thanks to our panellists for sharing their time and expertise. #CIPDScotConf24 #skills #learning #learninganddevelopment #learningculture

I had the privilege of attending the Workplace Safety and Health Conference at the University of Mines and Technology, where I delved into the critical intersection of climate change and occupational safety and health. The insights gained during this event were eye-opening, emphasizing the need for proactive measures to safeguard workers in an ever-changing environment. Key Takeaways: Climate Change Impact: The conference shed light on how climate change directly affects workplace safety. Extreme weather events, rising temperatures, and shifting environmental conditions pose new challenges for workers across various industries. Adaptation Strategies: Industry professionals shared valuable strategies for adapting to these changes. From heat stress management to emergency preparedness, the discussions were both informative and practical. Networking Opportunities: Connecting with fellow attendees and industry experts was a highlight. I’m grateful to Henry Antwi, FAusIMM for providing me with this opportunity. His insights and guidance were invaluable. Shared Responsibility: As professionals, we have a collective responsibility to create safer work environments. By integrating climate resilience into safety protocols, we can mitigate risks and protect our workforce.
