"I have come to realise that one’s attitude to life determines how happy one feels, and that one can change one’s attitude to be more positive." This heartfelt article nicely summarises my reflection for all the events that have occurred in the past year. The greatest lesson that I have learnt in 2023 would be to look at things in a positive light. There will be things that we can control and things that we cannot control. So why let the things that we cannot control, control us? https://lnkd.in/gwWWu2SW

October is #MentalHealthMonth in Australia. In partnership with @healthway.wa, FORM Building a State of Creativity is sharing a series of warm-ups for children and young people, focused on boosting wellbeing. These warm-ups have been devised by the wonderful creative practitioners and teachers in FORM’s Creative Schools program. The Soul Bird 🐦 “Deep down, inside our bodies, lives the soul … Right in the very middle of it, there’s a bird, standing on one foot. This is the Soul Bird. It feels everything we feel.” At Bayswater Primary School in Perth, Creative Schools practitioner Claire Davenhall and teacher Darelle Seal have devised this wonderful 15-minute warm-up ‘The Soul Bird’ for their Year 2 students, inspired by a beautiful short story by poet Michal Snunit. The Soul Bird is a creature who has thoughts, feelings and dreams. Sometimes it feels good things, sometimes not. By listening to the story, then creating their own Soul Bird with feathers and ink, this exercise in mindfulness supports students in understanding why they—and others—behave as they do. Warm-up how to: 1: Give each student a feather, a small pot of ink, and an A5 piece of paper. If it’s nice weather, why not do this outdoors? The only rules are no talking, so that everyone can tune in and listen. 2: Listen to The Soul Bird (four minutes) https://lnkd.in/gEmJ__cZ (link in bio). 3: Ask students to imagine what their Soul Bird might look like. 4: Invite the students to draw their Soul Bird, dipping their feather into the ink and then using it to draw onto the paper. This is activity is designed for students to develop self-regulation around emotions. It also helps them to explore why some emotions are difficult to handle, and to develop a language to navigate big emotions. It taps into Healthway’s @actbelongcommit initiative in the following ways: Act: activating students mentally/cognitively /physically/ socially/ spiritually/ emotionally. Belong: connecting with others. Commit: doing something meaningful, learning something new. @formwa | #formwa #creativeschoolswa #HealthwayWA #ActBelongCommit #creatingahealthierwa

Today's meditation: There are many fine inspiring examples of grit and determination. Professionals and amateurs, who overcame tremendous daunting challenges -and succeeded beyond imagination. There is one story that really resonates with my heart...because it involves the restoration of a sailboat. Watching any one of the many videos of the journey, that took 7 years, will give you much to contemplate, offer inspiration, and may give you just a small sense of the beauty that can be found in the deep mastery of any craft. In the spirit of offering you a deep wellspring of stories...to renew your passions, to help uplift your vision, to embolden your aspirations, dreams, and your goals...
