Impact Project Manager | Social Research | UX Research | Social Innovation & Tech for Good | Event Management and Experiences for brands with purpose
It's very interesting how new policies towards sustainability and the increase of tariffs on Chinese exports are shifting the balance of EcoDesign. #sustainability #greeneconomy #socialimpact
In the last 3 months, Someone Somewhere has received 200% more inbound leads looking to nearshore and decarbonize their textile products supply chains than in the same period of 2023. Why is this happening? 1) Biden recently increased tariffs on Chinese imports of several product categories. Trump is threatening to increase general tariffs on Chinese imports to 60% if he wins the election. 2) Companies are facing more and more difficulties to move products from Asia to North America. Logistics costs and lead times are increasing proportionally. 3) As 2030 approaches, companies who committed to carbon neutrality need to be more aggressive with their sustainability goals if they want to achieve this. 4) Europe just passed a regulation for a new “Ecodesign” framework for nearly all products across the EU. The US may do the same soon. What are our main tips for companies going through this supply chain transformation journey? 1) Focus on landed costs. Most products are still cheaper to produce in China, but when you add tariffs and logistics costs to the US, the landed cost of a product made in Mexico may be very similar to what you are currently paying. 2) Start with your simplest, most important products. Analyze your assortment and find which products are the simplest to make and have the largest volumes. Nearshoring these products first can help you hit the ground running, and build strong relationships with suppliers that can later on do the same with your more complex product lines 3) Build partnerships, not just supplier relationships. Once you find a supplier you trust, be very transparent with your needs and challenges. This will help them focus their energy on the right variables (eg: cost, speed, quality, sustainability) and ensure they give you results quickly. 4) Share your long-term goals since the beginning. Very few companies are currently able to nearshore and decarbonize supply chains efficiently, so they have a lot of demand. Share your long-term goals so they understand the full picture and decide to focus their resources on helping you instead of your competitors. #sourcing #supplychain #sustainablesourcing #procurement #sustainableprocurement #textiles #apparel #accessories

When importing goods from China, there are several key points to keep in mind to ensure a smooth process and a high quality product. Here are some important tips: 1. Choose reliable suppliers 2. Clear contract terms 3. Quality control, with site visits to Chinese factories if possible 4. Understand the relevant regulations and tariffs, Chinese exports are generally not taxed, pay attention to your own country's import taxes 5. Logistics arrangements, general shipping agency can ask the Chinese manufacturers to provide, they have a more favorable price 6. Payment method, most of the Chinese manufacturers will ship the goods with payment. 7.
