Involving family and loved ones in someone's eating disorder treatment can make a huge difference in their recovery journey. Struggling with an eating disorder can be a lonely, isolating experience that is rife with shame and secrecy. But including family in a treatment plan can help someone with an eating disorder understand that they are loved, that they are not suffering alone, and that others are invested in their recovery. At Within, we recognize that each family’s history within the context of their loved one’s eating disorder is unique, with their own set of needs and circumstances. Because of this, we offer virtual family therapy sessions to uncover familial issues that may need to be addressed to provide our patients with the best possible outcome. In addition to family therapy, we offer other forms of family support, such as family education and family support groups. Every family dynamic is different, and at the end of the day, we ultimately strive to do what’s right for each patient. To learn more about our 100% virtual eating disorder treatment programs and how to partner with us, email hello@withinhealth.com to speak with our outreach team.

As Eating Disorder Awareness Week (#EDAW) unfolds, it's a pivotal time for us to focus on the well-being of our children by recognizing the early signs of eating disorders. These conditions are far from just phases; they are complex issues that require our understanding, compassion, and immediate action. Key Signs to Watch For: Changes in Eating Habits: Skipping meals or developing restrictive eating patterns can be early indicators. Obsession with Weight and Body Shape: An intense preoccupation with weight and appearance often signals underlying issues. Physical and Emotional Changes: Rapid weight fluctuations, mood swings, and social withdrawal are critical signs. Excessive Exercise: An unhealthy focus on exercise can also be a red flag. During #EDAW, let's commit to creating an environment where our children feel supported and understood. Resources for Parents: National Eating Disorders Association (NEDA): A go-to resource with a helpline and supportive materials (buff.ly/3I1RpbG). Explore Family-Based Treatment (FBT) options, an approach emphasizing family involvement in recovery. National Association of Anorexia Nervosa and Associated Disorders (ANAD): A go-to resource with a helpline and supportive materials (www.anad.org) Together, we can make a difference in our children's lives by staying informed and vigilant. #EDAW is a reminder that early intervention is crucial for a healthier future.

In the spirit of Eating Disorder Awareness Week (#EDAW), it's time to arm ourselves with knowledge and compassion to support our youth battling eating disorders. Your role is instrumental in guiding them through recovery, and here's how you can make an impact: Supportive Actions for Adults: Educate Yourself: Gain insights into eating disorders to understand their experience better. Promote a Healthy Body Image: Encourage a positive environment that celebrates all body types, fostering self-acceptance and confidence. Communicate with Compassion: Engage in open, judgment-free conversations prioritizing emotional well-being over physical appearance. Seek Professional Support: Encourage your child to speak to professionals specializing in eating disorders. It's a sign of strength, not weakness. Be Patient: Recovery is a process filled with ups and downs. Your unwavering support is invaluable. Resources: Eating Disorder Hope: Provides comprehensive support and information (https://buff.ly/3uA6H4d). Academy for Eating Disorders (AED): Connects you with a global network of professionals (buff.ly/2wdU1hs). National Association of Anorexia Nervosa and Associated Disorders (ANAD): A go-to resource with a helpline and supportive materials (www.anad.org) #EDAW is more than a campaign; it's a call to action for us to stand by our children with empathy and understanding. Let's use this week to spread awareness, share resources, and reinforce our commitment to supporting those affected by eating disorders. Together, we can create a supportive community that encourages healing and resilience. Remember, your involvement can change the course of a child's recovery journey.

Our private youth eating disorder program provides comprehensive, evidence-based, collaborative care, including medical monitoring, therapy, nutrition support, and education and support groups. It is based on the principles of Family Based Treatment (FBT) but still provides individualization. This program is an option for those who are looking for, and may require, more support than regular 1:1 or who may be transitioning out of a higher level of care (such as an inpatient admission). We know that eating disorder recovery is possible. We also know that early intervention and consistent support is essential. However, with the long waitlists for most public eating disorder programs, many youth are left waiting to get the support that they need! This is why we created our youth recovery program, to provide essential, timely, comprehensive care. We know that parents/carers are essential in a youth’s recovery. Our program not only supports the youth recovering from the eating disorder but also the parent(s)/carer(s) helping them along their way to recovery. We are currently accepting applications – no official eating disorder diagnosis or referral is needed! Head over to our website to learn more about the program and submit your application today. Once you submit your application, a member of our treatment team will contact you to discuss the details, answer your questions, and if you choose to move forward, they will assist you with next steps. https://lnkd.in/gqvAksFf #edrecovery #edsupport #edtreatment #edtherapist #eddietitian #edprogram #journeytohealth

Eating Disorder Parent Coach | I help parents and family members to calmly and confidently support their loved one in eating disorder recovery.
Zuzanna and I are taking a bit of time off this week so won't be posting as regularly. So we thought it might be helpful to share a snapshot of what we've planned for this month! 🔥 February 19th: Our online Carer Support Group will be discussing 'Parenting against the Grain' this month. We often find when we're supporting a loved one through eating disorder recovery that our parenting sometimes feels counter-intuitive. We'll chat about why that might be necessary - and how it can make us feel. €25 per person/€35 per family 🔥 'The Secrets to Nurturing a Positive Relationship with Food and Body Image'. This webinar (rescheduled from last month) is a helpful guide for all parents who want to be equipped to navigate any challenge that might arise around food and body image. And, let's face it, given the society we live in, that's inevitable! And the more prepared we are, the more successfully we can navigate it. Only €25 + resource book! 🔥 Following on from our successful webinar for GP's and Practice Nurses last month, we're running a webinar for Healthcare Professionals on Saturday February 24th focusing on Anorexia Nervosa, from early warning signs to treatment and recovery. Jam-packed with strategies too! €40 🔥 The first of our (free) online webinars for Eating Disorder Awareness week 2024, will focus on 'Reclaiming Radiance: nourishing yourself in Eating Disorder Recovery'. For those on the road to recovery - and their supporters 🔥 Our second (free) EDAW webinar will focus on 'Five Powerful Ways to Support Your Loved One's Recovery Journey'. For parents, partners, family members and friends. To book your spot, check out this link: https://lnkd.in/ea5YsrGr or DM me. It will be busy but Zuzanna and I love sharing our (hard fought) knowledge to help others (and their supporters) on their journeys. The more educated, equipped and empowered we are as parents, family members and professionals, the more effective we can be.

Its a very good article. How do we grade and even degrade lived experience? Sometimes, I often hear people say 'feelings are not facts.' Many of us grew up in stoical ideological contexts, where feelings were offerings. Inspiring a desire to connect with what you truly feel, the game was to shut it down (eg hysteria, irrational). Furthermore, societies valorised sacrifice as opposed to being merely interested to 'each maximally satisfy their ends.' (eg selfishness). As we know, the key tools of formal impression management was/is to avoid; part of our normative commitments for sustaining allegiance to rational ideals. In the main, young children do not grasp the implications of how individuals, families, communities or societies frame decisions. As below illustrates, they do not understand how bundles of intentional habits can silence, censor and subtly disarm their feelings. These extant& dominant/oppressive ways of societal organisation in reciprocal interactions do distort our capacity4being reasonable; figuring things out/solving problems/arriving at judgements etc (Laden 2011). What 'social trajectory' is present in feelings/behaviours as positively reinforcing? (B.F Skinner). 'Pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and health care industries together make up the largest sector of the US economy' (Policy Advise, "The State of the Health Care Industry: Statistics for 2021" accessed August 6, 2021 IBIS World, 'Biotechnology in the US - Market Size 2005-2027 Traits of nations have always been intertwined with multiple macro level processes. Consistent with Ireland's history since about the 18th/19th centuries, what is particularly striking is how our lives are process outcomes from linkages to recognisable international groups. Some tend to romanticise and poetise this history; solidifying the stakes that hinder access to what we are truly like as a people. Below, like many others, does not deal with structures of denial; dissociated consciousness that individualises&tenaciously purifies the stakes of relational engagement. Outsized allegiances to typical ideas often revise history to suit its agenda. Critical questions of how self/selves comes to mind, beyond the impositions of idealistic forms? How do we arrive at a better openness2feelings/knowings¬ cede ground? How do we challenge standardisation of our lives by groups who claim2know more about our capacity4self-determination than we do ourselves? How do we mobilise resistance, when toeing the party line seems more in keeping with advancing our best interests? Lastly “Poverty kills as much as dementia, accidents, stroke, Alzheimer's, and diabetes,” said David Brady, the study’s lead author and a UCR professor of public policy. “Poverty silently killed 10 times as many people as all the homicides in 2019. And yet, homicide firearms and suicide get vastly more attention.” Brady is editor of Oxford Handbook of the Social Science of Poverty with Linda, M. Burton 2016

2moYES!!! Family must be involved. Failure to include the family opens the opportunity for deception and inaccurate information, family involvement is critical every step of the way. Eating disorders are complex and strong support systems are necessary.
