Ubisoft has announced exciting plans for the future of Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, promising free updates with new content and modes in the coming months. The acclaimed Metroidvania game received praise from critics upon its January release, with Eurogamer's Christian Donlan describing it as a "real delight" in a four-star review. Despite potentially lower commercial success, Ubisoft is committed to expanding the game's offerings. In a video message shared on social media by Lost Crown director Mounir Radi, fans were thanked for their support, with Radi expressing joy at seeing players enjoy the game. He revealed that the development team has ambitious plans for the future, including free updates with additional content and new modes to challenge players and enhance their experience. Ubisoft really can surprise us. I was skeptical about the new Prince of Persia, but after reading a few reviews, I decided to give it a try. How could I miss a good Metroidvania game? And I never regretted it. This game is up there with the best, featuring a compelling narrative, intricate combat, thrilling platforming, and a vast map for exploration. It stands shoulder-to-shoulder with Hollow Knight and Metroid Dread. I also looked into game accessibility and found that Prince of Persia excels here too. Playing on "normal" difficulty was challenging, but the game offers an impressive system to customize difficulty. Whether it's adjusting the parry window or adding checkpoints for tricky platform sections, the game lets you tailor the challenge to your skill level. This makes Prince of Persia a game that both seasoned gamers and newcomers can enjoy at their own pace. Unlike Metroid or Hollow Knight, which might not be for everyone, Prince of Persia welcomes all players. I believe making games hard for the sake of it misses the point. Games should engage and entertain, not exclude. This game does it right by offering fun and learning opportunities for all. Metroidvania games have been around for decades, and their enduring popularity rests on a magical mix of satisfying platforming, interconnected levels, and non-linear exploration. Nothing beats the satisfaction of defeating a hard boss or reaching a level you couldn’t access before. But the interconnectivity and skills progression also make it a particularly challenging genre for devs to nail. Mission accomplished for the teams in Ubisoft Montpellier, Ubisoft Romania, Ubisoft Ukraine Studios, Ubisoft India Studios who succeeded in bringing together Metroidvania mechanics with the legendary world and gameplay of The Prince or Persia, and introduce some new features to make the genre more accessible.
