Womble Bond Dickinson (US) LLP’s Post

On June 19th, in honor of Juneteenth, Womble hosted a panel discussion in Charleston, broadcasted live and virtually firmwide, featuring Cordes Ford, Daniella D. Landers, Henry Smythe, and Dr. Willie Griffin, with moderation by Katrina Pride. The event delved into Juneteenth's history and significance, tracing its origins in Texas to its recognition as a national holiday. The panelists discussed General Order Number Three's role in Galveston and the significance of red in Texas celebrations. They shared insights on preserving African American history and fighting historical injustices, highlighting the importance of accurate education on African American history and remaining alert to attempts to distort it. They called for actions such as self-education, supporting Black businesses, and engaging in community service, offering a comprehensive view on Juneteenth's importance and its role in the ongoing equality movement. The discussion also previewed an event for the International African American Museum in Charleston, sponsored by Womble.
