Meet the inaugural cohort of “Women Change Makers in the World of Wetlands” On this International Women's Day 2024, themed “Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress”, the Secretariat of the Convention on Wetlands proudly presents the inaugural cohort of twelve “Women Change Makers in the World of Wetlands”. Their achievements underscore the pivotal roles that women worldwide play in preserving, managing and safeguarding wetlands. Recognizing the valuable contributions of women to wetland conservation, the Contracting Parties of the Convention adopted Resolution XIII.18 on Gender and wetlands. “The stories of these women collectively exemplify the transformative power unleashed when women and girls, including indigenous women, are supported and empowered to lead in the conservation of wetlands”, said Dr Musonda Mumba, Secretary General of the Convention. The 2024 cohort of Women Change Makers in the World of Wetlands is presented in three main categories showcasing their actions towards: • Fostering international collaboration for wetlands • Wise use of wetlands • Wetland protection Through their biographies and their own words, gain insights into their leadership qualities, and their role as influential catalysts driving change in the protection and wise use of wetlands. Discover their role models and learn about the challenges they have encountered. Thanks to funding from the Government of Canada, the Secretariat is documenting the stories of women and wetlands as a contribution to the mainstreaming of gender perspectives in the implementation of the Convention. The 2024 Cohort of Women Change Makers in the World of Wetlands is an output of this initiative. For more info: https://lnkd.in/gTkQhhRd #WomenAndWetlands

On this year's International Day of Rural Women, International Land Coalition is proud to highlight the vital role rural women play in transforming Africa's agri-food systems. Despite the progress in land governance, many women still face barriers to land ownership. Through education, technology, and equal land rights, we are working to close this gap and build a more inclusive and sustainable future. "When rural women are empowered with land rights and access to resources, they become powerful agents of change." – Ms. Frances Birungi Odong Read more about our commitment to empowering women in rural areas and our collaborative efforts with the AU for improved land productivity. https://lnkd.in/ePA_sq6H #IDRW2024 #United4LandRights

🔎 Did you know women 🚺 represent ½ of the global population, produce the majority of the world’s food supply, perform 60% to 80% of the agricultural work in emerging economies, yet own less than 20% of land worldwide? Women play a vital role in global agriculture, yet systemic barriers persist around their land ownership rights. Ensuring women’sright to land isn't merely a matter of equity – it's crucial for achieving food security and promoting sustainable land practices. On the International Women's Day and every day, let's prioritize securing women's land rights for a more just and prosperous future for all. #united4land #inspireinclusion #drought #womenempowerment #herland

#CheckItOut! I wrote a blog post for #InternationalWomensDay2024 reflecting on Smart Prosperity Institute's projects and how we are #InspiringInclusion through our work. From understanding the barriers women face in entering and staying in forestry to how a blue conservation economy model benefits women's participation to leveraging competition law to promote inclusive growth, #SmartProsperity is contributing to understanding the barriers women experience within specific contexts, so that we can move the needle on #GenderEquality. #IWD2024
