Figma’s conference, Config, was two weeks ago and some of the talks remain on my mind. From inspiring innovation in home construction and architecture to practical guidance on scaling design systems, this conference was, as always, informative and inspiring. From some fantastic speakers, here are some notable one-liners: ✏️ Design systems don’t bind creativity; they create space for it by standardizing patterns in experiences. ✏️ Keep components flexible but guidelines strict. ✏️ Opinions are built into the fabric of every system. For opinions to have value, they must be formed in collaboration. ✏️ Accessibility is literally just user experience. Figma #Config2024 was incredible! An amazing week filled with insightful talks, meeting my design heroes, reconnecting with old friends, and making new ones. The design community is truly massive. With years of working remotely, my exposure to the broader design community has been limited. So, when I had the chance to join the community on the other side of the world, I immediately jumped on it. Some key takeaways: 1. Figma took 3.5 years to launch their initial product. Despite their success, Dylan Field said this was "way too long. Don’t do that." He recommends shipping quickly and getting feedback early. 2. The OGP Singapore team demonstrated that government can build effective, inclusive, and innovative products by adopting startup-like approaches. Imagine a world where paying taxes is easy and healthcare services make you feel truly cared for. I cannot imagine. Not yet. 3. Tregg’s statement, "If we were as empathetic as we say we are, our products would be accessible," resonated deeply with me throughout the week. 4. MDS inspired us by sharing how side projects can fuel our growth, provide a platform for true creativity, and open doors we never knew existed.

Some inspirational insights I gathered: 🧱 Craft a vision, not just fragmented pieces 📒 Gather insights from daily life to enhance your design process 🗺️ Design to solve problems but also to create meaningful experiences 🤲🏻 Ideate to evoke emotions, not just visuals ⚡️ Create cool things and have fun doing it 🪐 Dream big, and exceed those dreams Figma consistently innovates and adapts to meet the needs of designers and team members, supporting continuous and meaningful growth in Software!
