It's EAGE week now! In addition to my talk tomorrow, I will also be presenting on Friday at Workshop 10 - Geoscience and Engineering Needed for Deep Sea Mining. And, I am honored to be moderating a panel discussion in the Strategic Program on Thursday at 10:00 AM: "Future-Proofing Energy: Empowering Diverse Talent in a Tech-Driven World."

On 25 June, PIANC Vice President Calvin Creech, PhD, PE discussed the importance of regional integration of inland waterways at the Organization of American States XIV Private Sector Forum of the Americas in Asunción, Paraguay. The theme of the forum was “United for the Future: Integration and Development”, and Vice President Creech discussed how the development and integration of the inland waterway system in South America – especially the Paraguay-Paraná inland waterway system – has immense economic, social, and environmental advantages over other modes of transportation. This event was organized as part of the Organización de los Estados Americanos General Assembly and included themes of public-private-partnerships, innovation, applications of artificial intelligence, governance, and sustainability. PIANC is providing technical guidance that aligns with the Paraguay-Paraná inland waterway development project including WG 201 – “Framework for an Inland Waterway Classification in South America,” published in 2020 and WG 236 – “Sustainable Management of the Navigability of Natural Rivers,” which was published earlier this month. 💡 During the 1️⃣ st in-person consortium meeting of the PRO-GRACE project, that took place in Chania, Greece, in October 2023, we took a moment to speak with project partners to get their take on why the project is important and what their specific role in it is. Persistent institutional barriers hinder more experimental approaches needed to test/adopt novel solutions for effective #marinegovernance 💡 🌊 PERMAGOV will create a diagnostic tool to better identify institutional barriers in marine transport (🛳), life (🐋), energy (⚡) and litter (🥤).
