“If you’re not working on the right things, family ties will not just bind you – they can handcuff you.” When it works having your family around you in a business you’ve built together provides for a little bit of magic. On the other hand, recognizing when it doesn’t work can cause a few issues for your business and your family. Perhaps the most compelling comment made by the author of the attached article is letting family members "know that if they desire, they can go anywhere and I’d help them" - ensuring that they have a choice is key to overcome appointments due to obligation rather than passion, purpose or even capability. #successionplanning #familybusiness #familyties

An old friend shared this story with me several years ago, and I just came across it again. It can apply to many relationships - friendship, family, employer-employee...and franchisor-franchisee. A scientist put a flea on the table, then smacked the table. The noise (and maybe the vibration) made the flea jump in response. The scientist recorded the result. "Flea jumped." Then the scientist removed two of the flea’s legs - eek, inhumane, but it was in the name of science. The scientist smacked the table again, and the flea jumped. Okay. Recorded. "Flea jumped." The scientist removed two more legs. Again the flea jumped and again the result was recorded. Finally, off came the remaining two legs. The table was smacked again, but this time...the flea did NOT jump. Just to be sure, the scientist smacked the table HARDER and HARDER, AGAIN and AGAIN, and yet the flea would just NOT respond. The scientist's final observation was then recorded: “When a flea loses all of its legs, it becomes DEAF.” If a #franchisee isn't having success and/or or isn't following the system - which may be mutually exclusive - don't assume that you know the reason. Ask them why, care enough about them and their business to find out, and coach them. Remember that they joined a franchise so that they could follow a system and be successful! Does it make sense that they would just decide to not follow the roadmap to success? Of course not. So don't let incorrect assumptions be your downfall. Your franchisee is probably hearing you, but maybe something has them feeling like they've had their legs cut out from under them. 😜 #franchising #compliance #learnwithvern #businesscoaching AC Inc

Wonderful to see Tim King's success story featured on Inside Franchise Business! Here's a snippet of how he turned Home Caring Bowral into a thriving business. “It is about getting out in the community and connecting, meeting face-to-face, chatting in coffee shops, working out who best to align with. You want to work with people who share your business ethos. Once you get to that stage, it’s easier. “Now we’re well established in the community, we get personal referrals, and we are aligned with the discharge planner at the hospital. Everyone in the network helps one another." Read the full story below: @homecaring.com.au

With a family name like MacNeil, our Scottish roots run deep, now confirmed by DNA testing to include Norse (Viking) and Irish blood. We clansmen are proud of our heritage, celebrating annually at Highland Games across North America and Scotland. We gather to share stories over a wee dram of Scotch, keeping our traditions alive through newsletters and reunions. I've been asked once again to contribute to our Clan newsletter, recalling memories of Christmas Island, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia—near Iona, where the original MacNeil's landed after a treacherous journey from Barra, Scotland. Over generations, the MacNeil's, MacDougall's, Campbell's, and others who survived those harsh early winters thrived and eventually spread across North America. As I write these personal memories, I’m struck by how many of the people from my youth are now gone. Yet, I’m grateful to still have these memories to share. Why tell you all this? Ask yourself—are you happy in your job? Do you have control over your life and time? Can you spend time with your family and create lasting memories? In the end, memories are all we truly have of value of our loved ones. As a franchise consultant, I often hear from franchise candidates that their main motivation for transitioning from employment to owning a franchise business is to gain control over their time and spend more moments with family. Work-life balance is a powerful driver for success in any business. If you're looking to take control of your life and create a better balance, reach out to me at FranchiseFunConsulting.com to explore your franchise business options. Are labels really all that important? Back in my youthful, ambitious days, I used to chase job titles as eagerly as a dog chases its tail. But as fate would have it, owning my own businesses taught me a valuable lesson: titles are about as significant as a paper umbrella in a hurricane. Last night, at our Church Board meeting, I decided to put my curiosity to the test and asked the Chairman and our Reverend what my official title was. Their response? A delightful smirk from both, followed by the Chairman's nonchalant reply: "Call yourself whatever want, titles are not important here and our Reverend in his dry witty way said, "Call yourself Grand Poobah if you want." And just like that, the truth hit me like a ton of holy bricks: titles are as flimsy as tissue paper in a rainstorm. In the realm of small business ownership, I wear many hats. Some days I'm any one or all of these roles from President, CEO, CFO, CIO, Board Member, and hey, why not throw in Head of Custodian Services while we're at it? Because let's face it, when you're doing all the heavy lifting, why limit yourself to just one fancy label? At the end of the day, what truly matters is the quality of service you provide and the relationships you cultivate. Forget the fancy titles and focus on fostering trust, respect, and long-lasting connections. That, my friends, is the real recipe for success in the business world. Whether it's building a business on your own or within the supportive framework of franchise business ownership, it all comes down to what "you do unto others." If you're ready to Remove The Labels and pursue Franchise Business Ownership where you can be whatever you want to be, even the Grand Poobah, then reach out to me, Ray MacNeil, at FranchiseFunConsulting.com #franchisefun #franchiseopportunities #franchiseconsultant #removethelabel #grandpoobah #churchstories #beyourownboss #entrepreneur #careerchange #laidoff
