Change is inevitable, especially in healthcare. It's not about the size of our facilities but about how effectively we adapt to new regulations. Since the updates to the MDS, particularly Section GG, many facilities are still struggling to master these changes, which have become a permanent part of our landscape.
I’ve spoken with numerous administrators, and the pattern is clear: facilities that fail to engage their entire team in these changes often find themselves facing repeated citations. Sadly, these challenges often culminate in announcements of mergers or closures. Was this the outcome they planned for, or did pride hinder their ability to seek help?
As leaders and innovators in healthcare, we must ask ourselves: Are we proactive in adapting to these regulations? Are we involving our teams comprehensively to navigate these changes successfully?
It's crucial to step out of our comfort zones and acknowledge when we need support. Let’s not wait until our only options are merging or closing. Let's talk, strategize, and turn these challenges into opportunities for growth and improvement.
Here's a question for all administrators: When do you say, "I need help"? And if your answer is "never," I've got news for you...
