Erwin asked me today: why do you work at 3devo? My journey at 3devo started by exploring what kind of engineer I am and at the time I didn't think I was one. I still felt like I had to prove it. After finishing my internship at 3devo I stayed to work in production because I didn't feel like finishing university (HBO). At work I always had a good time. Together figuring out how to build a company with an healthy amount of laughter, plus I started to make some money At this point still not feeling like a worthy engineer. Pushed myself through school, got my degree and got a fulltime job at 3devo. Job title: Product Engineer. Sort of responsible for a product from development untill implementation. But still doing manual tasks in production because that is also where I was needed. It felt a bit like that 3devo was seeing my potential but didn't know yet how to use it effectively and I was still cluesless in what kind of engineer I wanted to be. At this time because of an unfortunate event I got the opportunity to take the role of Production Manager which I loved for the most part and it was for the first time that I wasn't trying to be a certain engineer. I was just being me and everyone around me liked it, and most importantly I liked it. This brought me to my current role where I am day in and day out working together with engineers and loving it. Was it easy and smooth? No I have doubted myself many times if I am good enough for the role and made many mistakes. Some of the mistakes I am proud of others I am not. Still learning to embrace the learning curve. My biggest insight is I shouldn't try to be a certain engineer or manager. I should start by figuring out myself and then figure out how I am going to fullfill my role. And this is something that 3devo stimulates every day. And this is where I find happiness. This brought me to have a great team that is in a rapid way developing new products which of we cannot wait to bring into the market. One of the continious challenges in this has been the validation of the market fit, but how awesome would it be to develop products with the market. Our customers themselves are innovators and do great research which brings great ideas. We don't know how yet but our new coming business model is facilitating this. The first season of Naruto taught me how to increase scope. It was supposed to be a C-ranked mission to walk an old man to another village. Then requirements changed and it suddenly became a deadly S-ranked mission with no way out. The task was still the same, to walk the old man to another town. But the scope increased beyond what anyone expected. For any software engineering task, nobody is stopping anyone to go beyond what was assigned. If you ask an intern to make a photo app, they'll give you a simple photo on a webpage. If you ask a new grad engineer, they'll ask about the size of the photos and where to get the photos. If you ask a mid-level engineer, they'll ask about supporting videos and other features that need to be supported. If you ask a senior engineer, they'll ask about security, latency, lifetime photo support, roadmap for other products, and total value to the customer. It's the same photo app, but the scope changes depending on who it's given to. But nobody talks about how anyone at any level can choose to expand or limit scope themselves for any task. One of the fastest ways to grow as a software engineer is to willingly upgrading your tasks from Genin C-rank tasks to Jounin S-rank tasks. #alexcancode #naruto #softwareengineer

Overwhelmed and under the pressure of expectations, I couldn't help but wonder, "How can I possibly conquer this?" But you know what? Every daunting task becomes manageable when you break it down. I embraced the challenge, adopting a mindset of continuous learning. "Let's try, try, and try again," became my mantra. It's my one-year work anniversary at Swarm! Over the past year, I have gained a wealth of knowledge and experience; time seems to have flown by, and yet there is still so much more to learn! Joining Swarm has been a great experience. Initially, I was scared to leave my previous role. I was comfortable in what I was doing but that in itself was a sign that I needed to step out of my comfort zone. My inner self knew it was time to take a step forward and see new opportunities for personal and professional development. One of the great things about working at Swarm is the work/life balance. As a young person, I believe it's important to me to enjoy my life, and at the same to develop my career. Despite occasional moments of uncertainty regarding my progress and comparing myself to those who have accomplished much over the past year, I am confident that I have put my all into learning and working hard. I need to acknowledge the small victories I have achieved, such as earning distinctions in my apprenticeship, successfully placing candidates in positions, supporting clients and building valuable relationships. These accomplishments have contributed to my growth and development as a professional. Its been a few weeks since interns joined Monova full time working across different product functions. One of the practices that I got a chance to lead back in Amazon was of hosting regular demo. And I've brought in that practice while leading Monova too! We did our first demo and it was so fun! - Demo activity gave a chance to the entire set of interns to present what they have been working on and built in the last few weeks. - It is a chance for other business functions to understand what's cooking on the other stations for that gives them ideas to collaborate and also foster a team culture. - Most importantly, as we are building in the consumer tech space and we all fit the ideal customer personas, so we get to see what's up from the lens of a consumer as well. This gives a good chance to get early and immediate feedback. We are planning to have demo every 2 weeks and probably share our developments too! What are the different activities that you do while managing a team? Oh, and yes, we have some very interesting news coming up in the next few weeks. Stay tuned ;)
