Volunteer coordinators…do you do volunteer exit interviews? If you don’t, you should! Unlike employment exit interviews, when a person may not give their honest feedback for many reasons, a volunteer is more likely to share their thoughts because a last paycheck, co-worker friendship, professional recommendation and industry reputation are not on the line. So why don’t all non-profits ask? Are they afraid to know the truth or do they simply not have a desire to actually change anything if they had the information? Back story: I recently ended a volunteer relationship where I contributed 5-10 hours per month. The S.T.A.R Method is a great way to take that preparedness to the next level. It is a tool used to craft concise and complete responses to interview questions. Once developed, you can practice answering commonly asked questions using this formula during a mock interview or self-recording. Situation: Describe the situation you were involved in Task: What was the task you were responsible for? Action: What action did you take to address the situation?
