Its time to end the outdated binary view of Open vs Supported Employment and just focus on providing work choices and pathways for anyone with a disability who wants to work. The more the better. Thanks to a generous multi-year grant from the Bowness Family Foundation , Wallara has been running an innovative pilot program leveraging our corporate partners to enable our employees to take that next step without risk. Here is a summary of the outcomes and impact to date. Big shout out to Carolyn Bloch who led the program for us with expert oversight from Simon O'Brien and incredible support from Leonie Boxtel GAICD. This is what inclusion at work looks like. The challenge now is to see if we can make this work financially sustainable without Foundation support because this work should be happening nationwide and organisations like us are perfectly suited to doing it. #supportedemployment #futureofwork #disabilityrights #inclusion

#inclusionmatters Thank you, Andre Joyner, for sharing... 🌟 Embracing Diversity Through Fashion: A Spotlight on JCPenney's Hope & Wonder 🌟 Today, I'm inspired by JCPenney's remarkable journey with their Hope & Wonder brand, a vibrant testament to the power of diversity and cultural celebration in corporate America. In 2022, JCPenney introduced Hope & Wonder as a brand and a beacon of inclusivity. Seeing their $1 million investment in cultural initiatives that resonate with America's rich tapestry is heartening. This commitment to celebrating diversity through fashion is a shining example for businesses everywhere. The Creative Coalition, led by the trailblazing Valerie Harris, embodies what it means to bring authenticity and representation to the retail space. Their work highlights the importance of seeing one's culture and heritage reflected in our products. It's not just about apparel; it's about identity, community, and shared history. I'm particularly moved by their choice of beneficiaries like Black Girls Smile and Latinitas. These partnerships go beyond monetary support; they build meaningful connections and uplift communities. As a leader in the professional development space, I see JCPenney's approach as a blueprint for how companies can foster an environment of inclusivity and respect. Their efforts align perfectly with the ethos of creating workplaces where every individual feels seen, heard, and valued. Their journey underscores a crucial lesson: When companies embrace diversity in words and actions, they don't just change brands; they transform lives. Matching quality companies (who employ great people) with digital services that grow their businesses.
Update: It's the last day of the competitive clothing drive. At the end of last week, our team (the Spoons) was falling behind and had dropped to the second spot. We gave each other a rallying pep talk, shared some words of encouragement and WOW check out that Monday/Tuesday pile of clothes around the Spoons table (far right, light blue). I love the teamwork mentality we have at Blue Compass. We all pitch in and work together toward our shared vision (which in this case is most definitely winning). In fact, this whole clothing drive is possible because of our team mentality. Any given year we have 8-12 crews that people can sign up for if they are interested in helping plan and organize events, holidays, etc. It gives everyone the chance to dedicate a little extra time to their favorite things, and build camaraderie with their peers who share common interests. The clothing drive was put on by our fabulous "Moral Compass" crew, formerly known as the volunteer crew. Would you be surprised if I told you that they have three creatives on their team?

📌 HR Pros: Don't forget to celebrate every kind of mom in the workplace this Mother's Day! 💐 ⭐ There are bio moms, step moms, foster moms, grand moms, pet moms, moms that you wouldn't know are moms and the list goes on... 💡 The biggest impact we can make is educating everyone on the diversity of caretakers, nurturers and role models whom make up this group of givers. 🫶 Ensure that your messaging, tokens of appreciation or events reflect a culture of inclusivity by inviting self identification (in order to also be sensitive to those who may not want to partake in celebration). Happy Friday... Let's human! 🤗

Hi everyone! Mark Maxfield here, CEO of The Cottages Assisted Living & Memory Care. Those who work for me know that culture is one of the most important things to me for my company. I hired a company President a little over a year ago, which has allowed me to work on the growth and culture of my company. Culture is often what you see, hear, and feel when you walk into your place of business. For me it would be one of our assisted living communities. Recently we had all of our community summer BBQs. I was able to go to ten of them and they were fantastic. I’ve been very impressed with how many people from our other communities showed up to help their sister communities. They assisted with preparing the meals, setting up decorations, and cleaning up. It involved a lot of work. So, my message for you leaders this month is, are you fostering an environment in your culture where people feel comfortable helping other people do their jobs? That means you have to be ok with cross training and cross supporting, so that people don’t feel siloed and like it’s a competition. It shouldn’t feel like a competition. Instead, it should feel like, this is our team. This is our company. How can we help each other to be successful? That’s one thing that I’ve noticed that is really improving in our company. I’m so proud of that and great job everyone! As a leader that is something you can look forward to as well. Making sure that everyone feels safe so that they feel like they can help everyone. In so doing, your entire company will be successful. See you next time. #cottagespride #assistedliving #longtermcare #seniorliving #seniorcare #seniors #healthcare #improvelives #deliverqualitycare #caregiveroftheyear

Labor Day is a time to celebrate the incredible contributions of every employee across every organization. It’s not just a day off—it’s a recognition of the hard work, commitment, and passion that each person brings to their role. But let’s be clear: the value each of us brings to our organization isn’t just about showing up—it’s about showing up ready to give our best, every single day. It’s about taking ownership of our role and recognizing that our effort doesn’t just impact our career; it affects the success of the entire organization. We all have a part to play, and when each of us commits to giving our best, that’s when real progress happens. This Labor Day, let’s not just celebrate the work we’ve done. Let’s commit to the work we have yet to do and the things we will still achieve. Remember, your best effort today shapes the success of tomorrow. Let’s keep pushing forward! #labordayweekend #LaborDay #strength #Teamwork
