All our workplaces have undergone a immense transformation in the last few years, with the rise of the hybrid and remote working model following Covid. In her latest blog post, my colleague Maria Bell shares the findings of the annual CCS Insight Employee Workplace Technology Survey, which explores attitudes towards hybrid and remote working, established and emerging technologies, and the impact and perception of the major technology brands in the enterprise sector. The survey revealed a paradox in attitudes to hybrid and remote working. While many employees initially embraced the flexibility of remote work, over half of our US and European respondents have now returned to the office full-time. The pandemic accelerated the widespread adoption of work-from-home (WFH), forcing orgs to update policies and provide tools, equipment, and support. It also proved that remote work is possible at scale. However, the current return-to-office debate over who works when/where, including how many days in the office, is masking larger opportunities to leverage hybrid for enhanced productivity, creativity, wellness, DEI considerations, and overall EVP competitiveness. My hunch is that the organisations that focus on equipping all employees to participate in and contribute to remote, in-person, synchronous, asynchronous, and/or mixed settings will develop a competitive advantage in both the war for talent and also in everyday operations.
