Protecting your employees' lungs is a legal obligation 🫁 👩⚕️Spirometry Testing: Employers can identify potential hazards, especially those associated with dust, fumes, and other harmful airborne substances. Spirometry testing measures lung capacity, airflow, and the presence of any abnormalities. 🥽 Equip Employees with PPE: These can include respiratory masks, respirators, and protective clothing. All this equipment acts as a physical barrier and reduces the exposure to harmful particles. ⛑️ Safety Measures: Well-kept ventilation systems, maintaining clean workplaces as well as controlling dust, managing chemical exposure and good hygiene are also encouraged. If your business sees workers exposed to risks which could harm their lung health contact us to discuss our spirometry testing and assessment service. Having PPE mandated on sites ensures workers are adequately protected from potential risk or harm. 👷♂️👷♀️ When it comes to respiratory health, it's the unseen airborne contamination or hazards that have the highest potential to cause long-term health effects. ☢ 💠Do we need to add respiratory protection as everyday PPE on signs? We are not by any means implying that workers should wear respirators as they do their hard hats and steel caps boots. 🚫 It is common knowledge that respiratory protective equipment (RPE) is only worn when conducting certain tasks, jobs, or within designated exclusion zones and/or areas. RPE signs are displayed on exclusion zones and/or areas where respirators are enforced. ⚠ 💠What we are more wanting to know is..... Is it worth trying to normalise RPE by having it visually displayed on signs and around sites for when RPE wear is appropriate or enforceable? What are your thoughts? 🤔 #fittestaustralia #respiratoryhealth #ppe #rpe

Myth: 'Low Exposure = No Risk' ❌ Many public safety professionals believe minimal exposure to toxins is harmless. But even small doses over time can be a ticking time bomb for cancer. Protect your health by recognizing all exposures matter. Here are 3 ways to minimize your exposure at any level: Proper Use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Always wear appropriate PPE, such as gloves, masks, goggles, and protective clothing, when handling hazardous materials or in environments with potential toxins. Ensure PPE is correctly fitted and in good condition to provide maximum protection. Practice Effective Decontamination Procedures: Develop and follow thorough decontamination protocols after exposure to hazardous materials. This includes promptly removing contaminated clothing, washing exposed skin with soap and water, and using specialized decontamination wipes or solutions as necessary. Regular Health Screenings and Monitoring (💡We can help with this!): Schedule regular health screenings, including screenings specific to occupational exposures, such as skin checks for dermatological issues and screenings for respiratory conditions. Early detection can significantly improve treatment outcomes. #FirstResponderHealth #CancerPrevention

🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨 **INDIGO'S DAILY SAFETY TOPICS** 🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨 In this fast-paced world we live in, it's easy to overlook the significance of respirators in our lives. When correctly used, they are our unsung heroes, protecting our lungs and overall respiratory system from dusts, mists, fumes, chemical gases, and biohazards that can pose a serious health risk. They act as our first line of defense against these hazards, making the difference between safety and harm, health and sickness. Navigating through the many types and functions can be a challenge but choosing the right respirator for the task at hand is crucial. As a safety necessity, there's more to respiratory protection than meets the eye. The right respirator: • Aligns with the nature and extent of the hazard. For instance, N95 masks filter out at least 95% of airborne particles, while P100 masks filter out 99.97% and are oil-proof; • Fits properly, sealing tightly against the face to ensure no harmful substances slip through. A correct fit can't be overemphasized. It doesn't matter the efficiency of the respirator if it's not fitting correctly; • Is used correctly. Usage guidance needs to be meticulously followed, as misuse can compromise your protection. Always remember - your respirator is only as effective as its usage! So let's appreciate these everyday superheroes, that, like a silent guardian, protect us from unseen harmful particles and substances. Educate yourself, your peers, and make the right respirator choice. It's quite literally a matter of life and breath! Respiratory protection is not an area to compromise on. Let us be mindful and continue to prioritize safety in our respective fields. 1. How well do you understand the different types of respirators? 2. Are you ensuring the proper fit and usage of your respirator? #RespiratoryProtection #WorkplaceSafety #SafetyFirst #PersonalProtectiveEquipment 💼👷🔬🌬️💨👨🔬⛑️

How well do you know the 'Contaminant Related Selection Factors' that should be considered when choosing the correct respiratory protective equipment (RPE)? According to the AS/NZS1715:2009 standards, the following contaminant-related factors shall be considered as part of the RPE selection process: 🔹The nature, toxicity, physical form, and concentration of each contaminant 🔹Whether failure of the device can result in a situation that is immediately dangerous to life or health (IDLH) 🔹The need to wear other PPE, e.g. eye or skin protection to protect against irritants 🔹The possibility of the contaminated atmosphere being flammable/explosive Photo: Dräger SCBA respiratory protection designed for an IDLH environment.
