Supporting students to succeed! As the school year approaches, we know it can be a tough time for families - especially for young people who are struggling with school, feeling disengaged, or uncertain about their future. At Workskil Australia, we’re here to help. During the 2023/24 financial year, we supported 400 students across 18 schools who were at risk of disengaging from their education. Our dedicated team of Employment Coaches, Youth Workers, and Counsellors works across programs like FLO, Youth Advisory, and Transition to Work to support young people in finding their direction, whether that’s staying in school, gaining skills, or landing their first job. #YouthSupport #TransitionToWork #EducationMatters #CommunitySupport #EmploymentServices

We must engage with children while they are young and while they are at school, here's why... Most children in New Zealand attend school from 5 years of age, but an increasing number are beginning to disengage and at an earlier age. https://lnkd.in/gpJ8C-Eu 26 September 2023; ‘Children as young as 12 are leaving school in search of work, according to youth employment agencies who say the country is headed towards a “significant crisis” if nothing is done to curb the flow of young people not attending school. Meanwhile, truancy services are working with thousands of kids as young as 6 who have been un-enrolled from school’. Kids want to be where their friends are, and to be good at something. BGYF’s Champions Begin for Schools programme is a proven solution, engaging many of these disengaged young people, giving them a sense of achievement and self-worth, and a reason to stay at school. Once out of the education system they are often on a slippery slope, particularly the 10–15-year age group. All children and young people deserve the benefits of a stable education. We must engage them while they’re young and while they’re at school! #championpeople #championcommunities

Research shows that by the age of six, children begin forming aspirations, but many adopt limiting stereotypes based on gender, ethnicity, or background. By age nine, some have already started letting go of their biggest dreams. That's why at SIPS Education Ltd we are working with The Careers & Enterprise Company to connect primary school children’s learning to the world of work. By volunteering just a small amount of your time, you can: • Raise awareness and inspire young children to explore a variety of jobs and career pathways. • Break down barriers and stereotypes that limit their future possibilities. • Help kids understand how what they learn today connects to skills they'll need in tomorrow’s workplace. Your involvement can make a real difference! Transitioning from high school to adulthood is difficult for many young people, especially for those without strong family support. Planning for a transition, developing independent living skills, seeking and finding a first job, as well as finding a place to live can be overwhelming coming from the safety net of Boys Town. That’s why we developed our Successful Futures program. It was designed to prepare young men and women, both before and after high school graduation, to successfully make this transition by delivering stable support systems, a community of peers, a safe place to live and workforce development opportunities. https://bit.ly/3w2Df7H

Have you heard that in the Czech Republic, home to over 10 million people, around 6,400 children live in 142 children's homes, with 900 transitioning out each year? Many of these young individuals, including those from foster care, single-parent households, or ethnic minorities face challenges in career choice due to a lack of guidance and outdated education, with disadvantaged youth struggling with low motivation, limited digital skills, and weak employability. This highlights the urgent need for specialized career counseling and training to help them successfully enter the workforce. We're glad to be part of the solution through our partnership with Nadání a dovednosti o.p.s.! With ROZHLED, a mentoring project that helps disadvantaged youth explore their strengths and make informed career and education choices. It aims to boost self-awareness, improve social skills, and provide hands-on experience to reduce school failure and reliance on welfare. Targeting youth ages 13–21, the program builds on over 12 years of experience working with children from various backgrounds, including those in children’s homes. The initiative also focuses on career awareness, job search skills, and reducing unemployment risks through partnerships with companies like Concentrix for mentorship and interview training. DIGI ROZHLED addresses the digital skills gap by providing students, teachers, and caregivers with essential digital and cybersecurity training. ❗ There are 900k young people outside the education system – highest level in nearly a decade. In a guest blog, Oli de Botton CEO of The Careers & Enterprise Company, sets out how and why careers education can help reduce rates of NEET (not in education, employment or training), through prevention. 1️⃣ Starting early: Evidence from a primary school pilot in disadvantaged areas suggests that when children meet employers and their teachers connect lessons to good local jobs, they look to the future with more optimism. 2️⃣ Modernising work ex: High quality work experience helps young people get ready for work, by exposing them and teaching them skills employers are looking for 3️⃣ Helping with transition points: It’s at points of transition where young people can fall out of the system. The nine terms between the start of Year 10 and the end of Year 12 need special support. Designing careers guidance and support along these lines can prevent the blighting of life chances and the widening of attainment gaps, according to Oli de Botton Read the blog: https://lnkd.in/eXh2UuVh #careers #workexperience #attainmentgap #disadvantage
