Regionally, we’re at the forefront of a national children’s social care reform. 🙌 Walsall and City of Wolverhampton Council are 2 of 10 local authorities piloting the new ‘Families First for Children’ programme, designed to keep more children in safe and loving homes. With additional funding confirmed for 2025, we will be working with central government to test and develop a new approach to children’s social care, which in the future, will be rolled out nationwide. We are proud to be leading the way for significant reform and look forward to contributing to the national strategy for children’s social care.

Walsall Council reposted this
🌍 History Made in #Wolverhampton! For the first time ever, the #KabaddiWorldCup is being held outside of Asia - a ground-breaking moment for the sport and for Wolverhampton. With over 200 million viewers worldwide, the spotlight is on our city as we welcome global talent, investment, and opportunity. This incredible achievement is the result of powerful partnerships between City of Wolverhampton Council, British Kabaddi League, West Midlands Growth Company, West Midlands Combined Authority, and University of Wolverhampton, with support from Birmingham City Council, Coventry City Council, and Walsall Council - a testament to what true collaboration can accomplish. Today, #InvestWolverhampton was proud to welcome city businesses to the opening ceremony and first matches, as TV cameras broadcast the action to millions. Global events like this are driving Wolverhampton’s transformation - and we're placing businesses at the heart of that journey. 🏆 Councillor Chris Burden (City of Wolverhampton Council) welcomed businesses to this historic occasion, celebrating not just sport and culture, but also new trade and business opportunities. 🏆 Professor Ebrahim Adia, PhD, SFHEA (University of Wolverhampton and proud sponsors of the games), talked on how the university is increasingly becoming a global university and highlighted their role as an engine of social mobility, driving graduate-level jobs and inward investment. 🏆 Joel Lavery (West Midlands Growth Company) praised Wolverhampton’s phenomenal support in bringing Kabaddi to the region and the exciting conversations now emerging as a result. 🏆 World Kabaddi President, Ashok Das thanked all partners for their collective effort in making history and bringing his vision of hosting the World Cup in England to life. 🏆 Charlotte Johns (City of Wolverhampton Council) emphasised how the Kabaddi World Cup is a platform for connection, collaboration, and economic opportunity, reinforcing Wolverhampton’s position as a vibrant, forward-thinking, and investment-ready city. With matches taking place across Wolverhampton, Birmingham, Coventry, and Walsall, there’s still time to be part of this incredible event! 🎟️ - Ticket link in comments. Thank you to everyone who joined us for this milestone moment. 🚀 England Kabaddi Association (EKA)
