'Reasons to bump sustainability up the list in product selection criteria' ╰┈➤ BCI Central’s latest report, the BCI Construction Outlook survey, reports that, when specifying products and services, Architects said cost and aesthetics came first and second, with sustainability sixth out of ten. ╰┈➤ In Architecture NZ (May 2024), Bill McKay reviews Jasmax's adaptive reuse project at The University of Auckland. He writes, '... here is the good news; this adaptive re-use project shortened the design and build time by a year and also resulted in an estimated cost saving of 25 per cent when compared to a new build. Very interesting topics addressed by the Pritzker jury 2024, awarding the prize to Riken Yamamoto with whom Arup collaborated on the Nagoya Zokei University project. My interpretation: - The importance of #community in its widest sense, as the human, social and urban context and origin of our architecture. - #ESG mustn't lose sight of the "S" factor that provides a sense of purpose, cohesion and mental wellbeing, together with the natural environment in which we exist. - There is also an important reflection on prioritising housing projects that are the daily landscape of our lives and make possibly 80% of our building stock. How can we achieve a #regenerative and #healthy city if we only focus on the 1% of landmark and iconic projects? - #Vernacular construction provides many answers to our challenges: energy and resource efficient, biobased, flexible and, why not, beautiful and timeless too! https://lnkd.in/dVKrRQcc
